Not sure if others care much, but I was happy to hear this. Star Island single is being retired. In its place, Vunderbar pilsner and Bouncy House will be year-round sixers.

I’m most excited about Vunderbar. I think it's quietly one of the best straight pilsners in New England but wasn’t a fan of its limited availability and price. Glad it’ll be in more economical packaging now come June.

Haven’t tried bouncy house yet, but am eager to.

Never cared a ton for Star Island so its demise doesn’t bother me.

How about you all – thumbs up, thumbs down, or indifferent on this news?

Good for me. Star island didn't do it for me, vunderbar does.

I agree with you on Star Island Single. Not a bad beer, but kinda polarizing, even for beer geeks. The second trial batch of Bouncy House was very good, so I'm looking forward to trying a fresh sixer when they release next month. I also agree with you on Vunderbar - so many breweries are ignoring pilsner and traditional pale ale and going for hop bombs, so I'm glad Smutty still represents for those of us who appreciate the style.

    Nice! We have similar tastes.

From what I remember, I never cared much for Star Island.

I completely forgot about Vunderbar until you posted this. I agree, this is a great pilsner, and one of the few in the country, never mind New England, that is well-made. I also enjoyed Bouncy House, one of the better session IPAs, although I'd rather session Vunderbar.

I haven't purchased much Smuttynose in awhile, but I will purchase at least one six pack of each of these beers.

I agree with @ElGallo on Bouncy House. I thought the first batch was okay. Good, but missing something. The second batch seemed to be a more complete beer from start to finish. Where I'd never buy a sixer of star island, I'd probably buy a bouncy house.

Their Shoal's Pale Ale is also severely underrated. It's not Zombie Dust so many beer geeks think there's something wrong with it.

Smutty makes great stuff. If you're from NE its a great option to your "cooler trips"

There needs to be two categories I think in NE now.

    1. Store shelf/cooler beers
    2. Limited and Brewery only beers

To add to that I think for many reasons you can not compare them to each other that well

    AGREED

Shoals is awesome,a english style pale ale w/ an american twist (52 ibus).

So glad that finally Star Island is retired,it hasn't been on shelves here in a while. What is here is ancient.

Bring back Portsmouth Lager!I had the first trial bottling of bouncy house and enjoyed it.Looking 4ward to the official release of BH in May.

Frankenlager D.I.P.L. coming soon in the big beer series along w/ a Tripel.

    Cheers All.....

Never realized it was 52 IBUs. Well-balanced beer.

Yes! Shame they don't make it anymore. Maybe if this lager was 52 IBUs it would have sold better.

    Thumbs up.

Like others I have fond memories of the Portsmouth Lager, but I dig the Vunderbar Pilsner too. I was one-n-done with the Star Island Single - not my thing. As for another session IPA on the market - meh.

Good news. I enjoyed both batches of Bouncy House and Vundebar is a great pilsner that I'm much happier seeing in a 6 pack than a 4 pack.

I picked up a single of the Vunderbar last summer in a mix six. I liked it, so depending on the price I might pick up another six. It's got strong competition from Sierra Nevada Summerfest 12's though. I don't even remember what Star Island tasted like, but I remember not liking it.

Not a fan of Session IPAs. I'll leave Bouncy House on the shelves for you all.

Looking forward to Bouncy House when I'm home visiting family in NH this summer. Also, I'll second (or third) the Shoals Pale praise. A great beer to just sit down and tip a few back with.
