Would imagine we'll see the announcement between now and Founders Fest.

    1) Can't forsee them doing a DIPA when they have Devil Dancer. Double Trouble, and Harvest ale coming up. Plus Founders already has a huge portfolio of IPAs.

    2) Did they lose a batch or was Panther Cub taking a bit longer than expected? I can forsee them doing two straight porters as I've speculated that the sudden nature of Smoked Porter and it's limited availability didn't seem "planned." This coupled with the fact that it seems Founders is trying to build some branding around PC.

    3) Spite seems likely at some point as it has been a taproom staple for along time. Don't think it would be BA as it takes a year and that takes up a ton of storage space for a beer that wouldn't like be a walebrah.

And Black Double IPA coming out October - December (the TBA specialty 4 pack on their release calendar).

At the artprize release party a few nights ago. Believe they said the founders beer this year would be announced end of August/early September. Maybe they misquoted it though. Wouldn't be surprised to see this as like solid gold or coat2.

Whatever the next release is I'm sure I'l pick it up. I've liked everything I have had from Founders so far, though admittedly I haven't had a whole lot.

There are still a couple bottles of this on the shelves at 23 Place Liquor in Brighton. They also have about 6 bottles of Smoked Porter as well. I personally didn't like Mango Magnifico. I think it's the peppers because I didn't like BB Mayan Mocha either and those are the only 2 beers I've had with peppers in them.

I didn't really like either of those beers either, but not for the same reasons - Mango Mag was too peppery, BBMM too thin and and I felt it was lacking a good dominant flavor. That said, I enjoyed Luchador en Fuego by Clown Shoes which also has peppers, so that one might be worth trying if you want to give it another shot .

You might like it now that it's been sitting a while. I opened my last one about two months ago and the hot peppers had almost completely faded. :slight_frown:

Interesting -- we popped my last one Saturday and people thought the heat was most definitely there, and at a "just right" level. I had it fridged since purchasing, which may've slowed the fade.

For what it's worth, I was told by a "reliable source" that the next Backstage release is an India Pale Lager. I believe he said it was a Double India Pale Lager. He said it was really good too.

Define "exciting". Pushing the boundaries of what they normally brew and giving us something new or just hand delivering barrels of CBS to your doorstep? I bet it's pretty exciting for those markets that they're extending into that they finally get some Founders. I think it's pretty exciting that as they expand their markets, they make more profit, which means more beer for everyone. And it speaks volumes to how spoiled and entitled we are when we have the opportunity to have limitless KBS, Panther Cub, and Maple BA Black IPA and call it "disappointing".

Truth is, Founders takes great care of their locals. If you have an issue with state-only and silent KBS releases (I ended up buying an entire case of KBS directly from Founders when all was said and done without muling or manipulating the ticket system) and the most specialty beer distribution in the nation, then by all means, move to Vermont or Missouri or Iowa. Because I know a whole lot of mug clubbers - myself included - that love Founders and will continue to support them. Please send your money elsewhere, because I will buy all of your allocations of the "underwhelming" and "downright bad" Backstage beers that win gold medals at beer events.
