Given the posting history, it was necessary.

Maybe there should be a thread "Have You Seen _____ (So Cal Bottle Locator)" I know there are others that seek out bottles, but usually they post that to the specific thread about that beer though.

In that case then, the search function would be your friend.

I would be in support of such a thread. Could be useful for non recent releases that might still be sitting around at certain stores. Like you said, new stuff typically end up in its own thread

Or one could just use social media to find stuff. Or make a couple phone calls. Why not try that first, then start threads second.

Someone tried to start a thread like that within the past couple weeks, and it went nowhere fast. I see a few reasons that a thread like that won't work very well:

    1) There are hundreds of beers in dozens of stores in a fairly large subregion - if the thread was at all active, it would become unruly quickly (far, far moreso than the Bruery thread) and tough to find anything.
    2) It's duplicative of social media, but less useful. Follow your favorite stores on Facebook/Twitter and you'll see when they update. If you wait for people on here to talk about it, you're decreasing your chances of getting anything that's at all limited.
    3) A lot of people share this sort of information privately amongst friends and aren't particularly interested in broadcasting it. Call it selfish, say it's bad beer karma, whatever you want - some of us would rather be able to actually walk into a store and buy the beers we're looking for than have it snapped up while we're still sitting at work. If you do the legwork yourself, great, but it's annoying as hell when limited releases come and go in a matter of hours because people post it on BA.

You don't have to drive there. Just call the 15 different shops.

It might not be in Chicago, but when I come back to see the family in Champaign, IL I see Brandy on the self every time, and this year found Bourbon Angel's Share as well. Sometimes Chicago and the rest of IL are completely different beasts distribution wise, but it should not be that difficult to find there as well.

Just to clarify, my original comment was regarding threads like this for beers that were released a while ago.

I might be mistaken, but it appears you're mainly referring to new releases? I guess this because you mention updates on social media. This proposed thread wouldn't be about when stuff comes out, but stuff that's sitting on shelves. Selfishness need not apply here, unless people are waiting on paychecks to buy stuff and want to keep them hidden long after their release. Stuff that's been sitting on shelves shouldn't worry about being "snapped" up.
