I just opened one of these great beers and wanted to alert those that love great German beer to seek this one out soon- *BB 8/14. I would especially encourage German beer skeptics to branch out and taste a true Maibock, fresh and delicious. I should add a review, but for the greater purpose of spreading the word, I thought this to be appropriate. Bread and hops, pepper and grass, not sweet and nicely warming, I love this brew from a great brewery. Cheers.

Love maibocks and disappointed this is yet to appear on shelf in NY. I've been waiting patiently

It is available in Rockland County as of last week, so it's in NY- maybe ask your local store if they can order it.

My only problem with drinking German beers here is- are they fresh?

I've recently noticed "Huber Bock" on the shelves in the Boston market - I believe Huber has been around for quite some time so just curious if anyone knows if there's any history between the two or just coincidence?

No, but your freshness crusade is totally cool

Here is a guess...Hubert or Hubertus was the first Bishop of Liege and was the patron saint of hunters, mathematicians, and metalworkers. Could be implying hunter's bock?

Huber...Minhas brewery was owned by the Huber family and the new owners changed the name from whatever it was (Monroe or Blumer Brewery to Huber Brewing Company. Huber Bock was introduced in 1947 and the brewery name was changed to Minhas in 2006 when the Minhas family purchased it. http://minhasbrewery.com/our-history

Probably wrong on the first one, but it is kinda clever for early morning and no beer....

It's not a freshness crusade. I've had numerous German beers at their source and love Germany and the beer. I would rather not drink a beer that sits for weeks or months in warehouses or a container ship- especially because I don't think most German beers tend to travel well, being lighter in nature.

This beer is new to the market this year and limited availability. Yeah, it's fresh. I've already had 3 bottles since it came out -- very good stuff.

No history -- as LeRose says, Huber Brewing was started by the Huber family in Wisconsin.

Well, there's a deer on the label…

I've had older beers from San Diego than many I drink from various German regions. This Hubertus is very fresh.

As others have said in the thread, it's still quite fresh, so buy 'em and drink 'em sooner than later. Plus, Hacker Pschorr's next seasonal offering, Stern Weisse, will be available and competing for the same shelf space at your local store.

Picked up 3 more yesterday to enjoy this weekend.
Followed by the Fest (probably a Wies'n) in the Fall and the Animator Doppelbock in the Winter. I need to put that bug into the only local retailer who got the Hubertus… before it's too late!

Sounds like good companion for a Maifest celebration.

It will for sure be their Wies'n, especially since we already get the Oktoberfest Maerzen. I'm also making sure my local keeps getting them in...by buying a good bit of what they have.:sunglasses:

Uh, never mind that we're exporting this in November and Starkbierzeit is 4 months later in March. :astonished:

Yeah -- now if it only felt like May! :astonished:
Okay -- call me the eternal pessimist, but I hope they'll still offer the Amber Märzen along with this new Wies'n Märzen (as Paulaner has done). We don't have enough well-made Amber Märzens available.
Exactly. Odd thing is, my spot had a case a couple weeks back that walked out the door in no time. He ordered another and it seems like I'm the only one buying it now. Oh well. :sunglasses:

A search shows it is named after St. Hubertus the patron saint of hunters.

So that means it'll be really fresh, right?:grimacing:

In all serious-ness, given that they (thankfully) put bottle dates on their beers, we'll at least know how old or fresh it'll be.
