I use to wait at specs when I was at UH. I found it to be a lot of fun talking to other beer guys. Now I never travel that way, so HEB at 4pm it is.

I certainly agree with everything you said. I don't get downtown as much as I use to, and would always find people I knew or people I remember from previous releases when I would line up for DR's. On top of being able to say high to Joey, and maybe a SA brewer or two. When I first moved into Houston, I was always going to Downtown Specs first before anywhere else for these. 7 years ago, it really was a gamble on when and what other stores were going to get it. Showing up at 9:30 at Specs was the easiest way to make sure you got a few six packs.

Now, I have a different job, with different hours, and it really is not that hard to get. If I could have, I probably would have made a stop downtown just to say high and pick up what I could. Anyway, I can and I know plenty of other people can wax poetic about the old days. I was happy to get some today, and it is a damn good example of the style. Can't wait to see you guys in June (if not before).

Why is every release like this? People go crazy and complain the day of the release that it's all out. I assure you that if you look around you can find this beer for a while. Branch out to support your local beer store and you'll find it. They need your money more than Specs, TW, CM and WF. Don't get me wrong, I go to all those places but not exclusively. Go to your local beer store regularly, buy some everyday beers there and enjoy picking up the good stuff without having to fight everyone else.

Every year I just wonder into an HEB or Specs and grab these releases and go .. NO idea why people wait in line and go nuts like apple Iphone nerds.

This completely. I'm in NYC this week and was disappointed that I wouldn't be able to wait this year. I rarely wait for beers and rarely chase most stuff these days if I can avoid it - and could easily do the same for DR if I wanted. But I've been in line for DR for many years now, and I don't intend to stop now. I've met cool people in line, gotten free donuts, enjoyed great conversation, and now it's a tradition more than anything. It's a nice time to remember where I was years ago in my beer journey.

FWIW I opened one up today with our NtX rep. I went in expecting to be unimpressed, but I actually enjoy the mix of flavors. Dangerously drinkable. Not sure if age will improve it as the citrus will probably taper off

Drinking this now. It's pretty good. Considering even some of the most well respected breweries in the US are pretty bad at making Belgian beers...that's a compliment. It actually caught me off guard at first as I thought it was being presented as a BPA not a BSPA. Having said that the 10% is well hidden. Lacks a bit of that complexity you get from really good Belgians though.

All in all...glad I picked up a sixer.

Agreed, tough style to get right. I liked it.

I thought it could be a little drier, little more carbonation, show some hop flavor/aroma to distinguish from the pack and the alcohol a bit more integrated.
