Quick question: going to be all around LA for a few days in June, and wanted to know how easy or hard it is to find PtE both in bottles and on draft. I know Russian River has a list of who carries their beers (I assume it is accurate) but didn't know if it is monthly shipments that get sold out immediately or if bottles are generally sitting around for a bit

    Thanks!

There have been bottles laying around at a few of those locations. However you will have to ask for them, they keep it hidden in the back.

Draft shouldnt be too hard. Check tap hunter or untapped. Bottles for the most part are gone the same day they arrive. depending on when/where you are you might be able to score a couple. Deliveries are hit or miss on a weekly basis. Hadnt seen any in a month then found some 4/16 bottles last week then 4/23 yesterday.

where in the la area are you going to be?

I think the Pacific forum needs a subforum just for people looking for Pliny on their next trip to CA. I suppose the New England forum is littered with threads of people asking where they can get Heady on their upcoming trip to VT.

Good luck though, I do think your energy would be better spent tracking down the plethora of other amazing IPAs readily available in SoCal.

How do you use Untapped to do this?

    Thanks,

    I use this: http://www.taplist.at/beer-search/

It uses Untappd's check-ins to populate its data. You have to use your brain, though--just because someone checks in to a Pliny at McDonalds does not mean that McDonalds serves Pliny; it just means someone near that McDonalds drank one and thought it'd be funny to choose McD's as their location.

    Cheers!

On tap is not even an issue. There's a few places like Tony's Dart's Away, 38 degrees, Father's Office and the such that typically always have a keg on tap.

Finding it in bottles really can't be predicted. It shows up so randomly and is gone equally as fast.

Kind of all over, but I know for a fact Long Beach at least one day/night.

I plan on doing so, I'm just nostalgic for PtE

I search for a beer and then see where people checked into it and then see if those locations are near where I am/going to be

This. Pretty sure someone put up a full list of where Pliny's available in LA about a week ago on here. And there's at least two or three threads asking every week.

As everyone's said numerous times, you can find it on tap with minimal research. But if you want bottles, it's luck of the draw/timing. Plenty of other great selections down here -- many of which you'll find detailed in similar "traveling to LA/where should I go?" threads posted here every week.

If you are in long beach, go to beachwood bbq. Odds are 50/50 they will have a keg on. Worst case if they dont have one on is that you drink their beers and have some bbq.

That is the one spot that has been on my list from the start, regardless of what specifically they have on tap. Think we are staying just a couple blocks away too.

In Long Beach your best bet would be to drop into Stearns Liquor (they have a 2nd location on Carson/Atlantic now too) they seem to put out Pliny weekly on Thursday or Friday afternoons - check instagram. Cal Heights Liquor gets Pliny regularly too but Raj is kind of a douche and probably wont give it to you if he doesnt recognize you. Most Whole Foods will get Pliny too, so drop into one and ask for it when you come across a WF. Aaaand as far as Beachwood goes, they'll usually put a Pliny/Blind Pig on Saturday mornings and it'll be gone by Sunday afternoon.

There's more to Cali, friend. But yea, it shouldn't be hard to get some pours. Bottles pop up too so call around. Check whole foods too.

It not at Beachwood, Congregation Ale House next door might have it.

This week Blind Pig was in draft at Beachwood, plus I read many good reviews on Citraholic.

Also, if you want bottles i recommend trying to set up a trade. I am sure someone will be able to score a couple of bottles for you for things not distributed/ harder to find here.

Make sure you don't take any pictures of the beer though.

Dropped plenty of money @ C.H. and when I got 1 bottle this week and went up to pay for it I got the:

"Have you been to my store before?"

    Prick.
