My first post in honor of Matt's last day:[IMG]
All Day IPA, Founders is finally in Arizona, yeaaaah!
Let me count the ways I love thee:
It comes in 15 pack cans at an affordable price
Good out of the can or the glass either one
Good golf course, lawn mower, outdoor beer.
Low abv with a nice hop profile and low in calories, so a good choice anytime.
It fits neatly in the short shelf above my bottles in my beer fridge so I can have a box on hand and chilled without using extra space.[IMG]

Sorry to see you go, Matt. I hope you are able to drop in from time to time. It was you and Malty who got me started on this journey. (Risking sounding quite corny here). Like an old friend, I enjoy being able to take time away and feel like things pick up where they left off.

It's beautiful in West MI. Blue skies, warm temps, and a light wind. What spring should be.

After too much time away with other commitments (spring is way too busy in my line of work), I'm happy to be back. This will be last brew for the week, so as not to interfere with a quality taper before the local 25k next weekend, and I couldn't have picked a better brew.

Cheers to Matt (and the Kangaroo for a well-place beer-mail).

I missed last week, and left a gaping hole in my beerness, a hole that couldn't be filled, even with a dozen beers over the week, and delightful steak the black hole remained.

I haven't been here long, but I've enjoyed the thread. Great idea. Put me down to help out as needed.

Today is a great day in Ohio, sun is out and the flowers are blooming. I decided to offset this fine day with a little sourness

I'm not usually a sour guy, but this 1809 Berliner Weiss was a nice gateway, crisp and clean with sour upfront without the big bitterness at the end. A lemonfest if you will. This was a nice entry into my world of pucker. I'll certainly pucker up again. (Insert duck face here).

    Cheers!

Well Matt, would love to take over NBS duties (did I just volunteer?), although there has been the odd Sunday where I haven't been around, I mean hey I have a life right?

Every day is new beer Sunday! Just like today! and yesterday! What's up for our hero?

Well we interestingly had a good discussion about doppelbocks and glassware sometime ago, and always like one from time to time. And have had very few eisbocks so we had a perfect excuse for NBS. I also had some new Libbey Pilsner glasses and love to use them right now, so ergo..

    --------------

Poured from the bottle into a Libbery pilsner style glass.

Classic doppelbock color, if perhaps a little less red and intense. Deep mahogany brown, capped with a nice thick creamy and fluffy tan head. Minimal retention as it does subside, but it does rise quite nicely off the pour.

Great aroma. Spiced dark burnt clove a bit and milk chocolate. Large herbality on this almost a sense of fresh sage and brandy dipped cherry fruit aromas as well. Just really nice, more emphasis on hot aromatics than thick malt backbone of a typical doppelbock.

The palate is wonderfully light cream flavored and slightly thick, but not boozy or syrupy. A big rush of milk chocolate hits, followed by a nice mix of creamy textures that hint and bring out a good mix of vanilla flavor. Ice cream sundae rich. There's just a touch of playful carbonation in the front of the tongue, but nothing that takes away from the experience. Very subtle warmth, hits the stomach with some good sensing schapps character but nowhere near a boozy rush.

Has a moderate malt richness, but makes up for it in creamy flavors of vanilla and chocolate that make it a trip for a hot sundae. Surprisingly also not much banana which would be right sometimes to style as with some doppels I've had but this one eschews that ester which makes it more enjoyable for me. Drinks so easily, wonderful beer.

Thanks for your thread, I really feel bad about participating in it so late in the game, as I saw it often but didn't realize it was different from What Beer Are You Drinking Now.

I'd be up for the challenge of hosting as I am often reviewing new beers everyday, but it looks like some others are in the front running such as @utopiajane @Greywulfken maybe @beertunes says there are some others ( @kgncfl ) in the mix too.

I can create a poll with myself and those 4 names for choices should we add anybody else?

Happy drinking @mattcrill and always drink well.

Ok trying this brew out for the first time. I really liked Tank 7 in the smokestack series of brews from Boulevard. This brew pours jet black with nice mocha lacing. The aroma I just want to smell for days! Roasted malts with touches of molasses and some red apples and plums. Faint sweetness. The tastes is sweet and bitter chocolate with waves of fruits and molasses. Hints of apple skin, pears and ash. Bitter sweet finish slightly on the dryer side. The body on the beer is a little of a let down I like my stouts thick and soft carbonation. This brew's carbonation is sharp and prickly and takes away from the medium light body of the brew. Overall, I will drink again. This brew is worthy, when I want an ok Substitute for Courage IRS.

At the risk of breaking my 480 week streak, I'm going to post again on NBS without a new beer (do as I say, not as I do)

Thanks much for all the well wishes and virtual toasts.

Looks like this thing is much bigger than any one of us which is cool and let's me know this is in good hands.

Looks like @cavedave and @utopiajane can take the lead from here with plenty in the bullpen to make sure this thing keeps rolling every week.

I'll be around. I may be silent (or not) but I'll be around.

    Cheers everyone,

    Matt

    New Russian Imperial Stout Sunday
    Greetings, fellow NBSers,
Matt, I'm bummed to hear you are leaving but thank you for your dedication and being our friend, guide and philosopher on this thread - not to mention the unique blending of beer and Star Wars references!

Here in Spokane it is Bloomsday, so thousands trooped downtown to run through the streets on a cloudy, sporadically rainy day. I only run when chased, so I covered for someone at work who decided to be a "Bloomie"

Now I'm home and have oped for a Courage RIS:
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/664/12873/?ba=woemad
This beer was originally brewed in the 1700s, and has been reintroduced by Wells & Youngs to capitalize on it's enduring following. Not as good as my favorite RIS (oak-aged Poseidon), but it's a pretty tasty example nonetheless, with it's biggest drawback being the price for such a small bottle.

    New Berliner Weiss Sunday

I was surprised when I went to check out NBS today and learned that Mr. Crill is stepping down from week to week operations. Matt you are an excellent advocate, your dedication and passion is truly inspiring. I hope your Sundays continue to be filled with new beer and joy, I raise my glass to your legacy that you have earned. Week 480 eh? that is 9.2307 years by my calculations well done!

The sun is shining right now, and it is shaping up to be a nice evening in south eastern Pennsylvania. I just went to my local whole foods for the first time because I was out of new beer..

Professor Fritz Briem 1809 Berliner Weisse

Pours a golden opague color with a small white head that fades to more or less a lacing of head around the top. Smell of light hay with zest. First taste has a bright lemon sourness that is washed away by a fair amount of carbonation with a clean dry finish. A pleasant funk lightly lingers in the back end. A great example of the style.

Much respect to Matt, I've got a new beer or two in the fridge for later, until then Cheers!

In honor of Matt's last post on NBS, I will post my first in this thread. Thanks for running such a great thread, this is one of my favorites to check in on, even if I don't post here each week.

I just moved to Denver, Colorado last week from Upstate New York, and the craft beer scene here is amazing! I just scored some Bligh's Barleywine, so pumped! But alas, that beer is for a different thread.

Today I will be enjoying Mikkeller's Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, I think he makes amazing stouts that are worth the relatively high price.
WOW! Loving this beer, it has a very thick, full mouthfeel with a silky smooth texture. This beer is full of roastiness and I think this is the most chocolaty beer I've had that doesn't actually have chocolate in it, even more so than Brooklyn BCS.

Thanks again Matt for such a great thread, best wishes to you in all your future endeavors!

    On a roll here... :stuck_out_tongue:

    Widmer Upheaval IPA

My NMBS - (New Meh Beer Sunday).
After finishing that CW BB Barleywine I posted earlier and getting lunch, I got thirsty. So, sitting there on the fridge I had this Widmer Upheaval IPA. Been wanting to try it as I had heard mixed reviews - decided to crack it open.

In short - its dank (not in a good way). Smells just like you'd like an IPA to smell at first - but soon thereafter - overpowering aromas of mango and papaya takeover with a caramel/honey finish. Taste is of over-ripened fruit and there is almost no hop presence. Bitter finish - like you'd have from eating a mango's skin not from hops. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy - not what I expected for a PNW 7% ABV IPA. Good appearance though. Now, its wasn't that bad, but it was a letdown based on what I was expecting.

I bought this one on Wednesday - as soon as it hit the shelves here, however, its bottled date is mid March. I'll give it another shot if I find a fresher bottle. In general - I've always wanted to like Widmer - but honestly, nothing they do has impressed me.

    Full Review: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/8/106024/?ba=HoppySeb

@utopiajane @cavedave I pledge to help with your cause and become a frequent NBS poster. Hell, i'm sort of a ticker at heart and have new brew Thursdays - i'll just move those to Sunday!
    Cheers!!
