I had a bottle of SA Triple Bock that I could have eaten with a knife and fork.

The first time I had SN Bigfoot, which was fresh at only about a month old, I thought it was thick/syrupy.

Hard to say....Tie between Huna and Black Tuesday.
Something interesting though, stouts seem to lose thickness with age. Had a Brandy Huna pretty fresh, and just had one last weekend. The body was significantly thinner, and the brandy was super strong.

Thinking on recent beers I've had, two completely different ones come to mind:

Brash Smoglifter, which is one of the most viscous stouts I've ever tried, and
Westbrook Shane's Big DIPA, which was an incredibly syrupy double IPA.

In the case of Smoglifter, I think that thickness worked in its favor, partly because it is seen as a virtue for the style but also because it complemented a strongly alcoholic profile. That beer was best consumed at room temperature. In the case of Shane's Big DIPA, I found viscosity a bit off-putting. It was a fine beer, but it also served as a reminder of why I don't drink big IPAs, as I frequently regard them as "hop syrup." But an interesting experience nonetheless.

Not to question anyone's experience here, but am I the only one who finds most barrel aged beers overly thin? I'm always surprised when people refer to them as thick. I just don't seem to get that aspect.

Depends on the beer. I had a Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Stout and thought it was way too thin for the style, and that was probably the main reason I disliked it. BCBS, on the other hand, is quite thick - I sometimes describe it as motor oil-like in consistency - and that's one of my favorite beers, BBA or otherwise.

I'd agree with the assessment of Brash Smoglifter. Also Mikkeller's Beer Geek Brunch Weasel.

Any Southern Tier sweet stout. They brew it with malt, hops, yeast, and thick.

Thanks for the insight. I still haven't tried BCBS, but I will agree that not all BA stouts are equally thin. Although still thin (to me) when compared to Expedition, I do find Black Note to be far more tolerable than most BA stouts in terms of mouthfeel.

Amazed no one has mentioned Ten-FIDY - one of the chewiest stouts out there. Speedway Stout, BCBS, FIS are all remarkably thick, as well.
