All depends on the Pluot varietal. My favorite, dapple dandy, is tart upfront with sweetness on the back end. They did use this varietal, and I got some Pluot, but with both Pluot and blackberry, the fruit should have been more upfront when fresh.

I got massive fruit on Valley and Pluot. Haven't cracked a FR Blackberry yet but the only blackberry sour I have tried was mild in fruit flavor but still enjoyable (Ojos Negros). FR #4 is drinking great right now IMO.

Are you saying that their contract brewers aren't following the recipes?

That wouldn't explain why they are average.

Who are you to determine how their beer should taste? Are you an expert?

It's my understanding that Almanac is more along the lines of a 'gypsy brewer' and brew in different places using other breweries equipment. A contract brewery brews other breweries recipes at their brewery...under contract. I could be wrong about this.

I think they brew exclusively at Hermitage in SJ or at least they did.

Just announced, the next beer in the series: Dogpatch Strawberry!

    Dogpatch Strawberry
    7.5% ABV | 375ml bottles & limited draft
    Available May 2014

[IMG]Swanton Berry Farm is nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Warmed by the summer sun during the day and cooled by humid marine breezes at night, Swanton’s fields grow some of the sweetest strawberries in California. We hoarded these magical berries and added them to our Dogpatch Sour ale before aging it in used wine barrels. This complex beer is our ode to the fertile coastal farmlands of California.

    Farm to Barrel
Our Farm to Barrel beers focus on the eons old tradition of aging beers in oak barrels. This American wild ale was aged in used wine barrels for eight months. In the barrels we blended a classic Belgian-style red ale with local strawberries and a cocktail of wild Belgian and American yeasts, including San Francisco Sourdough starter. The yeasts slowly morph the beer from a traditional ale into something wild, creating a mild acidic bite as well as pulling oak and vanilla flavors from the barrel. After maturing, the barrels are blended back together—creating a vinous, delicate beer that captures a specific moment in time from our select Northern California Farms. Farm to Barrel Beers are alive in the bottle, and will continue to mature gracefully for up to 3 years.

Pfft, another cash grab by a shitty brewery just looking to meet their "quota" of sours. I'd say wake me when they make a good one, but we already have wayyyyyyy too many sours saturating the market.

They have to, what with so many sours flooding the market, they gotta make sure that shit's out the door before anyone else!

I'd buy it and give it a good rating, but since they announced a release date it can't possibly be good. Drain pour status.
