I haven't been able to find a definite answer on this. It is clear that there are 2 different Boubon Barrel Dark Lord bottle counts. There is a 420 and a 688 count for the regular bourbon barrel bottles. Does anyone know the difference? Are there 2 different types of barrels used? Did they just do 2 batches?

Two batches with over 1,000 bottles. No info from Three Floyds if there is a difference. The did say this year it was a blend of barrels.

Just seems odd that there would be 2 separate bottle counts if there was no difference

Maybe the 420 bottles were brewed with the good stuff instead of hops

it was the first bottled of all the BA variations they did. They were going to do 420 for all 4, 1680 total out of the 24,000 bottles of regular DL. Then realized everyone would buy the BA version at $50 regardless, and decided to make scratch offs 1 out of every 2 tickets sold. Thus they had to up the count, and from 420 they went to 688. Then bottled the rest of the BA's accordingly.

I'm a little confused by your explanation. While it seems like a logical move, if they sold 6,000 tickets and offered four per person, they couldn't take any away from the 24,000, and on top of that the BA DLs are 750s instead of bombers which would sap even more away from the regular bottles.

Also, are you saying that there is no bottle numbered less than 421 that says 688? This means that there are only 688 total, not over 1,000 which is what you get when you add the two numbers together. That seems contrary to what everyone else is saying. Where did you get your info?

I don't know what kind of nonsense that's supposed to be, but the answer is: two different runs, blend of barrels.

From what I understand is that the 2011 was aged in Pappy barrels while this years is used a different barrel. Not sure what that barrel was or if it was a blend. When people post "ISO: PVW DL" they are referring to the 2011 bourbon barrel aged DL.

I've found that on this site, sarcasm only works in really small doses (like one sentence maximum) and usually takes a winky face  to really get the point across.

Plus sarcasm shouldn't be entirely true (if the sarcastic part was that FFF was greedy/opportunistic and wanted to sell more $50 bottles).

Is DL '11 the base beer for all of these variants?

Does the number on the bottle enhance your enjoyment, or does this pretty much only matter if you are looking to sell the bottle?

I would say it only matters if there is a difference between what is in the bottles. For example is one for PVW barrel aged and one was Heaven Hill, I'd want the one that was PVW. I think most would agree. Just seems odd to not have them numbered to the toal instead of 2 separate allotments.
