Ok Ok I get it. IPA mania is running wild. High ABV Stouts and barley wines are all the rage. But, can I get some respect for the season of Bock. I like many styles, but consider myself a Bock lover first and foremost. Anyone else think Bocks are underrated and under represented. If so what are your Favorites?

    Me.

Celebrator and Korbinian probably favorites. Don't mind Salvator or Optimator.

Sudwerk Doppelbock is alright. Victory's Boisterous and Victorious are alright. Capital and a couple others from Wisconsin can be good but we don't have much Wisconsin distribution here.

I do love both Celebrator and Korbinian in Doppels, Anchor's Bock is also excellent, really want to like the Aventinus, but the wheat and strength tougher just don't do it for me. I will put the Hooker on my list

The first beer that brought me to my knees- showed me just what beer can be- was a bock. It was Aass Bock in 1982, and I'll never forget the awe and excitement I felt.

These days I still prefer the continental versions, although there are a few American brewers who can make credible versions. They usually just don't have the magic, for lack of a better term.

Andechs is a recent arrival, so I've been drinking the hell out of their Doppelbock. Celebrator and Optimator are also favorites, plus the occasional Doppel Hirsch, Maximator, Korbinian and Schloss Eggenberg. Plenty of great Doppelbocks to be had, from elegant to powerful, and points in between.

For Helles Bocks/ Maibocks, Einbecker is great when you can get it fresh, and Hofbrau may lean towards a Trad Bock but is still a hell of a rich beer that rewards multiples in a session. The seasonal Hacker-Pschorr Hubertus is on the paler side, and shows its hops, but is also well rounded and satisfying.

Traditional Bocks are, on the other hand, what we really need. Other than Einbecker UrBock I can't really think of too many on the shelves these days.

Maibock season; in my beer locker right now: HB Maibock, Capital Maibock, H-P Hubertus Maibock, Schell's Maifest, and, my new personal favorite, Wisconsin Brewing's Big Sweet Life Maibock. Add to that a couple leftover bottles of Metropolitan Generator Doppelbock -- enuf love?

...and the Aventinus weizen-eisbock. Angels sang Handel's Messiah when I tasted that one... at least... I think that's what I heard.

You probably didn't hear much after a couple of them seeing as the abv is 12%.

Celebrator is one of my top five beers, would love to try a bourbon barrel aged version of that one but they can't make bourbon in Germany. Korbinian, and EKU 28 are great and for American versions that I've had both Troegenator and Bell's Consecrator are good.

Maibocks are near the top of my list of favorite styles. I'm glad to see Wisconsin Brewing get some love. I was just at their brewery and Kirby, the brewmaster, had me sample their soon to be released saison straight out of the secondary. The guy is incredible and produces some solid beers.

Agree with everyone above, but can't believe 3 of my favorite Maibock haven't been mentioned:

    Straub (wonderful stuff)
Sly Fox Spartacus (Named after the winning goat at Bock Fest)
Troegs Cultivator (best new beer of 2014)

Honorable mention: Genny Bock (not a Maibock, but cheap and delicious).

I was going to chime in with the new Troegs Cultivator. And I dig many if the others mentioned on this list. Why oh why can't I get Victory's two Saints anymore?

And, has been and has, for many years. I can remember a similar trip to Capital where Kirby let me sample Weizen from the secondary -- 'bout 1990.
