    Genny Bock.

One of my most eagerly awaited seasonal releases. Love the art, love the price, and the beer itself ain't bad.

Many German styles don't get the respect they deserve and bocks are certainly one of them.
Celebrator is an amazing beer and the epitome of a dopplebock IMHO. Salvator and a few other classic staples kick ass too.

Kulmbacher eisbock is a killer beer as well and I've said many times before they I wish more eisbocks were readily available.
Hirschbrau maibock is the only German imported maibock I've tried and it was damn good despite being slightly skunked from the green bottle. Local Option does a great opportunity one as well. Other traditional bocks are not easy to come by but what I've had I've enjoyed. Einbecker Urbock was quite good.

Weizenbocks are another neglected style. Aventinus is the gold standard for this style I think. Though Sierra Nevada did a good interpretation of the style I think. Weyerbacher's wasn't bad either but a bit high in alcohol.

I posted about Bock beers yesterday:

“Ayinger Maibock is indeed a very tasty beer, I had two pints last evening and I thoroughly enjoyed drinking those two beers.

Every year Sly Fox brewery has a Bock Fest/Goat Race where they release their Maibock and name the beer after the name of the goat which wins the race. The Bock Fest occurred last Sunday (May 4) and I had a chance to drink some of the Sly Fox Maibock on cask; that beer was absolutely sublime!

Troegs Cultivator is also a very good beer: I still have one bottle left.

    Cheers!

P.S I suppose that Victory St. Boisterous that is available on draft at the Victory Brewpub is next on deck? So many tasty Bock type beers available and so little time.”

P.S.S. I personally consider Genny Bock to be an American Amber Adjunct Lager (AAAL) but since it was brought up previously I figured I would mention it too. I bought a case of Genny Bock earlier this year and I still have about a 6-pack left in the refrigerator. A very süffig (German for drinkable) beer!

You might be interested in knowing that sometime next week Straub will be releasing a mixed case: Sunshine Sampler. It will include 4 different beers: Hefeweizen, IPL , Pilsner and 1872 Lager (Classic American Pilsner).

I have already asked my local beer distributor to get me a case.

These new Straub specialty beers have been awesome!

    Cheers to Straub!

Amen to the Bocks.. I love a good one.

New Glarus's Bock is friggin excellent..

Infact, I was at a 5 Seasons Brewpub last night for dinner with my wife who rarely drinks beer, but since I brew, she tries everything I make.

She was all over their maibock and dopplebock last night at dinner. Opted for a .5L of the Dopple and surprised the shit out of me!

I'll be that guy: why? Doppelbocks and traditional bocks are very similar and Maibocks have similar malt character, if not as deep.

i don't think the style is underrated per say. the sort of dark, hearty biscuity flavors found in bocks usually not "balanced" by sweetness or hoppiness is not something most people really get off on. it doesn't surprise me that bock, doppelbock, etc is a polarizing style.

that said, i love a great bock.

With the exception of doublebocks and weizenbocks there are usually none to be found.

Another nod for the excellent Troegs Cultivator.

When in better beer cities, I often hit up one of the German Restaurant/Biergarten places that have the 1L krugs, order some food that looks tasty, and yes... I'll celebrate with one of the above doppelbocks.
