Just wondering what's proper etiquette here, as it was my error. I posted an ISO for Cherry and regular Adam from the Wood, thinking each was $15 like Matt and Otto had been. I offered up BG&E and Daybreak (and Matt) for a 2:2 trade. I got some offers, the first asking to do 3:3. That got put on hold when the carbonation issues came to light, but in the meantime I also saw that Cherry AftW was $10, and regular $12, so the trade right now would be $45 for $34. So, is it poor form to mention this and say I'd like to adjust it? No trade was agreed upon or finalized.
I would say it is much poorer form to post a thread than to just say to the trader, "Hey, I just realized $4$ is a bit off, any chance we can even it up"
I felt bad that someone got in touch willing to do a specific trade I proposed, and that I would then ask to change it. My hunch was that it should be fine to adjust given the circumstances, but I was looking for some confirmation. Thanks for the great help.
If the difference in money bothers you considerably, then bring up your concerns via bm and see if there's a way to work it out. If, on the other hand, you're both happy with the beers you're receiving, know you're excited to try new beers that might be otherwise unavailable to you, and realize that in the end 11 dollars is small change in the grand scheme and life and beer...well then...carry on
This kind of confirms one of the concerns I had, which is that the reaction might be "you seriously want to adjust this over $11?". $11 isn't a huge deal, but I just wouldn't have posted the ISO as I did had I known the prices. Part of the happiness with a trade is the sense of a fair exchange, and with a trade under $50 of pretty equal value beers, $11 is enough of a discrepancy for me. Also, the trade may or may not have occurred on BA, so I don't think I'm insulting him by posting this. And I already BM'd him about it as well. Just wanted some thoughts from the gallery.
I think $11 with the beers you are talking about is significant. As long as you aren't looking for anything crazy, just something like quality locals to even out $4$ then I think you are good in asking for more. I would give Cherry AftW and AftW +$11 in locals/limited shelf stuff for those beers in a heartbeat.
In this case, the beers are all essentially equal in terms of rarity, so I see no problem asking the person to make up the difference. On the other hand, you could leave it as it stands and the trader will make it up on your next trade.
Are you happy with what you were getting before the realization? I'd say of you were let it stand. If the guy realizes on his own he is getting a great deal he should extra you something good, perhaps another AftW. Or perhaps you create a great west coast trading partner you can have help you with future beers.
I mean, that's the whole thing. I was happy enough when I was mistaken on the price. I guess it would be like if someone who doesn't follow beer news traded for 2013 BCBS under the assumption the production size was similar to 2009, and then you ask him if he's happy with the BCBS he's getting. Agreed on the latter points, but I don't trade frequently enough to have that be a real possibility. I also wouldn't expect him to feel like he totally conquered this trade and owes me something either, but I still believe it should be evened out. And this is all still excluding the carb issues.
