Any recommendations in the Three Rivers, MI area? Thats south central MI, south of Kalamazoo.
I heard Bell's is no good.

Don't know much about the area, but if you heard Bell's is no good, then you're listening to the wrong people.

The guy I spoke to said at the Bell's you really don't get anything special. The same beers we get here in Chicago they serve on tap there. He also said the restaurant is a cafe, lot's of sandwiches. Not really what a group of 8 dudes is looking for.

This statement can't be more incorrect, especially about there being nothing special on tap.

Huh, I thought the original statement was a joke which is why I didn't respond. Whoever you spoke to is wrong. Check the taplist, there is usually at least a half dozen things they don't bottle.

Wow, the guy you spoke to is absolutely wrong...I cannot fathom why someone would even say that except he is being an ass

If I were coming in from out of town I would definitely make it a point to head to Bell's and drink my fill of Traverse City Cherry TCOA. The fact that I am in town and have not drank nearly enough is tremendously disappointing.

I've thought of heading north just for a trip to Bell's. If you are anywhere close, I'd make it happen.

Definitely hit up Bell's and while in Kalamazoo, hit both Kalamazoo Beer Exchange and Central City Tap House as well. Beer Exchange is in walking distance of Bell's.

I 2nd the Traverse City Cherry TCOA. It is awesome!

I agree with the others above. so whoever told you what you said about Bell's is fill of crap.

There is a new brewery that recently announced that they will open in Three Rivers; however, that is likely a year away. Don't just 'reconsider' going to Bell's. Three Rivers is currently a beer wasteland, so you will WANT TO drive the 15-20 miles to Bell's, or any of the other 7-8 breweries in the Kzoo area.

If your group of guys are looking for a steak dinner or something like that, you won't find that at Bell's. I had their jambalaya the last time I was there and it was fantastic. And their day to day taplist is as good as any out there.

Beer has come to this. Very sad. You get Q falls in Chicago, or the experimental hop beers?

The BBQ sandwich is pretty good.

Depending on where you are coming from, a stop at Greenbush in Sawyer would be worthwhile. Tapistry Brewing is also nearby in Bridgman and they make decent beer. Bell's is definitely worth a stop to try some of their experimental hop offerings. There is a relatively new brewery in Portage called Latitude 42, but I haven't had any of their beers - yet.

Great food, decent beer(they always have 15-20 on tap so you can always find something good, just nothing mind blowing).

Geographically might be the best option coming from three rivers.

This couldn't be further from the truth. Of all the breweries I've been to in MI (and it's pretty much all of them), Bell's has one of the largest, if not THE largest, selection of "taproom only" (i.e. non-distro) beers. The only others that spring to mind that have as many or more are Short's and Kuhnhenn, but neither or those are anywhere close to Three Rivers.

Went to Bell's Saturday night. Great place, great beers. Thanks for setting things straight!
