Congrats! I got married last year, and like several of those above, went with a mix that would appeal to the masses, but also an option to lure in some that were on the fringe of wanting to try something new. So we naturally did Bud Light, then bumped it up to Guinness, and finally had a keg of local beer. We went with an easy drinking kolsch, seeing as it was early September, and in north Florida. We later heard from several guests that they gave the craft beer a try, because we highlighted that it was locally brewed, and they loved it. Cheers and best of luck with yours!

I looked at your distribution for TN aand VA and kept in mind not framing out the timid of palate:
Stone IPA or Bell's Two Hearted Ale
    New Belgium 1554 Black Ale
    Franziskaner Hefeweisse
    Rogue Dead Guy Ale

I agree about staying on a lighter note of beer styles. Stick with beers that they know of and maybe do a one local brewery. I would do lager, white ale, and a coffee stout from left field. My guilty pleasures are Newcastle, hoegaarden, hop stoopid, and end it with ten fidy.

if they prefer the yellow fizzy stuff, then get that. But anything by Stone brewery is top notch.

Been there, done that and considering the occasion, you can make yourself crazy about making sure everyone is happy and having a good time. Don't. Lots of great input and nothing to add because I think the suggestions are spot on. Being a fellow beer geek, at our wedding, I was nervous about the selections but because of the momentous occasion, funny how everything fell in place and a great time was had by all despite the diversity of palates. We had a live band, it was in January during a snowstorm in PA, and yet 98% of the guest list showed up (including in and out of state people). IMO, don't make yourself crazy and when the day comes, the beer was secondary (I only had one the entire evening and I'm "sorta" beer geeky, ). You can't please everyone and on your special day, it's all about the two of you which overshadowed everything else. No matter how hard you try to plan, everything will fall in place.

I pretty much agree here...maybe even less then 5 or 6 different ones...maybe just 3 or 4 different kinds....dont go too crazy.I had allot of good stuff at my wedding..Le fin du mond, tres pistoles, hoegaarden, konig ludwig heff,leffe.....and some others and had allot left over..with about the same amount of legal drinkers. At the end you know your people and how they party..did i mention i had an open bar all night......my weirdo guest were slamming BMC garbage and liquor instead of the yummy craft brews ::slaps forehead:: at the end like @thisisforever said, its your wedding make it a night to remember for the both of you...its your night  .....I hope this helps :grinning:

I'm in charge of alcohol at my friends wedding and I'm thinking of doing a keg of a homebrew I did with the groom, as well as a case of heady topper/and or Pliny, as well as something lighter for the masses like SNPA.

Be honest about the tastes of your guests, and get them what they will enjoy to drink. If it's BMC, well, so be it.

No liquor? Your family must be different than mine.

Get you and the wife a couple mix cases of your favorite beers, and everyone will be happy.

Wedding is a celebration of love so let everyone celebrate with what they love to drink.

If you have a favorite saison, it's a great summertime wedding brew. Easily accessible style. We had Two Roads Workers Comp Saison at my wedding last June and it was a hit with craft fans and non craft fans alike.

Gotta please the people at your wedding. I did a few kegs of a light beer, a few of yuengling lager, and a couple cases of craft for those interested. Important thing us to know your company, we needed way more beer and bourbon to please our guests than anything else. We had wine and other spirits but I knew exactly where the buzz would be. If you got some extra cash, I'd suggest a few boxes of good cigars to put out. Even people who usually don't smoke them will light up at a wedding... it ended up being a hit and they were all gone that night.

I have to agree with jzeilinger. Everyone will have a good time, no matter what you do. I would mix several cases of something like Coors, Miller Lite or Bud Lite and a few mixed cases of something else like Seirra Nevada, Sam Adams, or Boulevard. You know your friends and what you can buy locally. Relax, there are no wrong answers here!

My Son had his reception a few months ago, and mixed the beer like this and had a little wine. There was no liquor but guest were invited to bring their own. Everyone had a good time! If you had more guest a keg might be a good idea, but they can be a lot of work, too!

    Oh, Congrats on the Wedding!

Planning for my wedding in 1.5 months here and we're looking at the following.

We are having our tables be assigned a beer as their "number" and gift. i.e. Colette Table, FW Union Jack table etc. They can take that beer home from them or barter and trade if they so choose. We have 8 people to a table so for most beers that leaves 4 extras. We will have those (about 15 varieties of 4 beers each) in a ice tub for people to drink at the wedding.

We kept the bar list short and simple. Everything in cans: Avery IPA, Oskar Blues Mama's Lil Yella Pils, and Coors Light (Still a craft beer to a lot of east coast people coming out to CO for the wedding :-)). We will also be serving Graham Cracker Porter from Denver Beer Co. with our desert.

Now that I type it out...this seems less short and simple and more complicated. Oh well!

Regular DL and BCBS? What are we, paupers? Should probably be variants at least.

    This list should work:

    1) Bud Light (or comparable light beer)
    2) Sam Adam's Boston Lager
    3) Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

If you want to add a couple more:
    4) Blue Moon
    5) Dogfish Head 60 Minute (or comparable IPA)

That should cover all of your bases
