So I know that 5 PM is kind of generally considered an acceptable time to start drinking.

I also know a lot of BAs probably start drinking a lot earlier than that

Heres what I want to discuss..

I am a father of 3 kids under 4 years old. My work hours are 6am - 2pm, 5 days a week. Sometimes on my day off, the kids will wake me up crying or something at 4-5am. Most of the time , even if I get the kids back to bed, I will stay up,since this is the time frame I would normally be up for work anyways and my body is just used to being up this early. It also provides me a great opportunity to get things done around the house since the kids are all asleep and I don't have to chase them around...

One of these days was this past thursday. by 8 am I had multiple loads of laundry done. Kitchen mopped, living room steam cleaned, dishes done, dinner in the crock pot, paid bills online, basically everything I had to do for the day...

By 10am I had been up for 6 hours and working pretty hard for all 6. I was ready for a beer! It seemed ridiculous to have a beer at 10am. But my 'internal clock' was telling me it was time.

Anyone else have stories like this to share? Opinions?

    Please do discuss!

I drink when I want a beer, time be damned! Just look at the WBAYDN threads each day. Plenty of us have a morning beer.

Kudos to you. When I travel, I hit the local brews available in the airports regardless of what time I get there. Last time I remember, I had a Denver craft (can't remember the brew, but it wasn't new belgium) at 10 am. I don't care what time it is, if a good beer is available I am drinking it.

Just don't get trashed. Americans are fairly weird about AM beers except for vacation.

I used to work the night shift, and would occasionally have an 8AM beer. It was my happy hour.

If I'm off, not solely responsible for my kids that day and am not getting wasted so I can help out if need be then who the hell cares what time you have a beer. I had one at breakfast, one at lunch and plan on having another with dinner. Off work the next 3 days and work a stressful job so I'm unwinding how I see fit.

i'm not usually up for a beer in the morning, but i'll have one with lunch if it makes sense. usually doesn't, but it's not like a prohibition or anything. basically only if i'm traveling.

In Munich, it's not uncommon to see people on the street drink Augustiner at 7am.

Las Vegas has no last call, so I imagine there are people who are drinking Budweiser bottles at 5am while trying to hit the jackpot

I myself even wrote a beer review at 5am after I was out all night at a party in Brazil.

When I worked a late shift the crew's tradition was to end it with a trip to 7-11 at 6 am for a beer and burrito. How can you argue with tradition?

The right time to start drinking is when you don't have to do anything else important before the next time you sleep.

Me too, along with a couple a bong hits! Perfect way to start the day before some yard work.

No worries, when I get home from a call shift and it's been a shitty call, I crack a beer at 8am when I get home...

I didn't ever drink before noon until I started watching the English Premier League on Saturdays. Most matches start at 9 am where I live, so I became used to drinking some "session" beers during the match. Of course the last 3 months I've been recovering from ankle surgery, so no work = daily contributions to WBAYDN, no matter what hour.

Like the OP, I also have extremely early work hours, so I totally understand that perspective.

Good thread. I'm of the opinion that I'll crack one whenever I want, as long as I can keep up with my responsibilities and not be driving. That being said, I've still never had a beer before lunch time. Just the way things have worked out for me, but I can see a coffee stout in the morning sometime in the future.

You will know when the appropriate time comes to have a beer. you will feel it.

The only rule I follow is no beer until the toothpaste flavor has worn off. Oh and don't even think about getting behind the wheel. Exceptions to the toothpaste rule can be made on golf days.
