    I follow these rules:

Workdays: Anything goes when work's over. If that's 2:00PM, so much the better.
Weekends and Holidays: No beer before lunch.
Vacations: Whanever the hell I want, I'm on vacation.

Note: If the wife and kids are out of town, I'm on vacation.

Why do you think they make coffee stouts?

I usually bake some brownies in advance to pick me up a bit after mowing and hoeing. Sierra Nevada cans end up in weird places in my yard! Happy Friday PM!

Normally if you work weird hours (ie other than 9-5) you are allowed to drink an hour or two after getting off work. Granted you were off that day, but the heavy lifting is done. You have my blessing

I worked 9p-7a for a four month three years ago. I was busting my butt the whole time. I had three or four beers every morning when I got home. No issues here.

    Enjoy

Odd hour worker here too, very often from home with cell phone and internet - yeah, sometimes 10am seems like a great time for a good beer when I have been on the game for 6 hours already.

I enjoy fruit and breakfasty stuff too much, and I am very finicky about what food I can have with beer (which usually does not include brekfast foods). The only exception to the rule is if I am on vacation, particularly with friends, and we crack open a beer we brought to the hotel when we wake up (and is usually cheap ass beer).

Okay, usually when the discussion turns to what is or is not acceptable I start feeling like an alcoholic, but I'm good on this one. It is rare that I drink before 8 p.m. and when I do I usually end up regretting it. But from 8 to 10 is my time to shine!

Pretty sure airports don't count. There's no such thing as alcoholism in an airport!

Working weird hours has conditioned me to drink when I feel like it. Often in the mornings I will go with a hard cider, vodka or gin w/juice, or an additive in the coffee. Ya know so the neighbors don't talk (as much).

Sounds like you have your responsibilities covered. It's only when you treat beer un-responsibly that you have any kind of problem. Cheers!

Agreed 100%. My wife is like the face of responsible drinking my eyes. Some weekends she will get up at 9 am and have a beer with breakfast at 9:30. She doesn't work weird shift hours or anything so it'd definitely not "socially acceptable". The thing is when she does that she often doesn't have another beer all day, or the maybe even the next few days, or the next week… She has a drink when she wants one but never before work or anything like that and she stops when she's content, usually after one or two. Surely that has to be healthier than looking forward to that after work beer every night like some of us do, right?

The 5pm rule was created by the boring working stiffs that begrudgingly sit in cubicles all day and dream about that 5pm beer which coincides with the time they get to leave their assigned prison. It's at that point they wonder if they should jump into their Camrys for their 1 1/2 hour commute home or hit T.G.I.F.s for margarita/sangria frozen swirls and $2 Miller Lites.

Meanwhile, you're at home with your kids and drinking a beer at 10am. You don't know how good you have it.

Same here. Other than being on vacation, non-US sport is pretty much my only reason for drinking before lunchtime (especially 6 nations rugby - no choice but to hit a bar for that one)
