    Hey Everyone,

As a very generous present, I received a trip to pick out beer glassware. I already have a very nice Tulip glass that I use daily. The thing is, I use this for sours, stouts, IPA's and everything in between. I don't mind this, but with this present I have the opportunity to expand my glassware beyond the tulip glass.

My real question lies in wondering what would be 6-8 types of glassware people use, and for what beers would you use them for? What glassware is most useful for you? Any favorites or ones that just collect dust?

    Cheers!

Depends on what styles of beer you drink more often than others.

I have a bunch but rely maybe on 4-5 of them regularly

    • Tulip glass [Belgian styles]
    • Nonic pint [Straight forward Pale Ales, Bitters, light stouts, porters]
    • Snifter [High gravity large beers, barleywines, imperial stouts, big strong ales]
    • Pilsner glass [Tall glass for lagers, pils and some German styles]
    • IPA Spiegelau [I got this recently for IPAs in particular, it's fun and I like it's light weight, but it's not exclusively neccesary]
Those 4 or 5 are pretty much all you need. I have a few favorite Belgian breweries beers, and I have occasionally sought their glasses out, but it's not totally necessary all depends on what you desire. Proper glassware is real nice to have though.

My Free State IPA glass is my favorite. It brings out a lot of flavor that a shaker pint doesn't, and the lacing always seems to be more present in this glass.

Great fun topic! I'm all in...

My core glasses and my related preferences, grouped more-or-less in order of frequency of use...

    Can't live without
Pint - for anything really, but expensive or barrel-aged ales don't often find their way into it
Tulip - for almost anything, particularly D/IPAs and Belgian pales; yet never for stouts or black-colored ales :astonished:
Snifter - barrel-aged ales, barleywines, Imperial stouts, and "big" beers that I'm gonna sip as they warm
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Generic back-up
Flute - my flute is stout, in this case meaning relatively short, and I tend to use it for stouts, but I'm not adverse to putting pale ales in there either - great for mid-size pours!
    [IMG] [IMG]

    Infrequent use
Stange - I kinda treat it as a pint back-up, but with far less use, and I don't pour black beer in it
Pilsener - for pilseners (obviously ), but also any crisp, tight pale ale might show up there
Goblet - Belgians only - dark or pale, doesn't matter
Weizen - primarily for beers with "weizen," "weiss," etc. in the name; any beer made with wheat is a possibility

Branded glassware usually only see their respective beer in them; two exceptions being my Duvel Tulip, my first and probably my favorite piece of proprietary glassware - and with the most flexibility - and my 471 Brussels IPA glass, in which I enjoy featuring smaller pours of hoppy pale ales.

Regarding an amazing artisan glass manufacturer -- Simon Pearce from VT makes some incredible beer vessels. Snifter, pint glass and this gorgeous tulip. Big and thick -- these guys make some amazing stuff. Not cheap -- but when you are drinking $30 worth of craft beer a night --- you owe it to yourself!!!!

Prefer that this is a big one because over time you will have less "empty glassware". We know that "empty glassware" is the most worthless useless kind of glassware to have.

You are so spot-on - actually had a mug set on both my Christmas and birthday wishlists - the missus never came through!

When confronted (after both events had passed), she said I already have too many beer glasses :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing:

I'd say just get one of these packs, and then experiment with different styles in the different glasses and figure out what works for you.

I'm digging this glassware. wouldn't mind having one as I still have yet to enjoy my buffalo stout from these guys. Shit this stuff is costly but i suppose you are paying for quality after all.

Likely, you will find a glass or two that you'll use 4 outta 5 times, so my advice is to take a trip to a few new and interesting breweries. If you collect glasses as you go along, you'll surely find one in particular that you like, and every glass you get will have some great memories attached!

Stouts: What's generally better for them, a pint glass or a snifter?

Spiegelau "stemmed pilsner". Not sure why they call it a pilsner?
