Feeling nostalgic on a Friday night and no not the girlfriend you always wonder what happened to but the beer you didn't buy when you had the chance to. Anyone else had a whale or a highly sought after beer in their hands unknowingly and let it go only to regret it later.

When King Henry came out my local bottle shop put them all on the shelf. I was there the day they were delivered. The manager knew his beer but didn't know anything about that one when it came out. I could have bought as many as I wanted that day. I had one in my hand but didn't know enough about barley wines at the time. By the time I caught up, they were long gone. To this day, I kick myself in the ass wishing I grabbed one. Its probably my favorite style and one beer I may never try.

Anyone else let one pass by?

I literally had one slip through my hands. Far from a whale, but love trying Dogfish Head beers. In San Diego I was carrying a few 750 ML bottles in a black bag along with my luggage in another hand. I ran into some old friends in the hallway of my hotel room and was talking. The bag slipped out of my fingers and my Dogfish Head Positive Contact shattered. I managed to get it in a trash can before too much seeped out and the other bottle was ok. I think the other bottle was Urkontinent. Never did replace the Positive Contact and still wonder how it is. On a side note,I fell in love with Alesmith while there. Neither Dogfish Head or Alesmith available in MO.

You want how much for some random Goose Island beer in a green box? Ha, don't think so.

It didn't all get away, but I had the opportunity to buy about 5 bottles of 2011 Old Stock Cellar Reserve, wimped out over the price, and only bought 1.

I was a true noob on my first trip to the bottle shop. In a corner there was a section with stone, lagunitas and firestone walker. The Firestone walker beers were in boxes. A bunch of them, all different with strange names like sucaba and parabola and all priced at $14.99. I checked the price tag and moved over to a cheap sixer of something with wheat in it. Never saw those again.

Was just starting to get into craft beer so I made a trip to a local Wegman's to grab some stuff with cool names and labels. Saw an entire endcap of BCBS priced at $10.99 a 4-pack (some stock boy messed up pretty good). Grabbed a pack since I recognized the name for some reason even though I thought ten bucks for a 4-pack was asking a little much. Wish I had known a little more at the time and grabbed a few more, but you live and you learn.

I passed by 8 bottles of Berserker on a bottom shelf of a big beer store thinking to get them next time in. Went back next day, all were gone.

I got you all beat. About ten years ago I walked into Home Liquors in Verona NJ and their were two cases of Westy- one yellow cap, the other red- sealed. I didn't buy any. Got home and called a friend who went there two days later and it was all gone. Still don't know what I was thinking. Early in my BA days and wouldn't do that now.

A few months ago some Black Note was sitting on the shelf at a TW, maybe half a dozen bottles, I didn't even bother to pick one up. No idea why, just didn't. There's some PT5 still at that store and for $16 it will stay there.

Probably two years ago when I first started getting into craft beer I went to a local liquor store a couple of times and I remember seeing the FW anniversary beers sitting there, along with parabola and madame rose. Didn't buy them but I seriously debated it at the time, but I hadn't had anything from FW before and wasn't sure about the style of madame rose. Kicking myself all the time.

Nothing rare or completely bad, but I think it's an amusing anecdote, so I will share:

A little over a year ago, fresh into the craft beer scene, I was checking out a package store across the river in New London. I didn't know the reputation (fresh/stale beer, selection, etc.), but I was shocked when I saw a sixer of Lagunitas Sucks just sitting on the shelf. Everyone on BA was raving about it, but it hadn't been seen in our area all season - yet, here it was, waiting for me!

I debated getting it, until I read the full label: Lagunitas Sucks Brown Shugga Substitute. At the time, I wasn't familiar with the history behind Sucks' genesis and name, so that threw me off. "Is this the same beer," I thought, "Or some weird variant with agave nectar or something instead of brown sugar?" I had absolutely no idea.

I passed. Didn't see it again in the area until the following year's release. (That's when I found out that, yes, it's freaking awesome.) Felt pretty dumb afterwards, especially after I had to wait about another 9 months to finally try it.
