    TASTE ENLIGHTENMENT
    THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES...
If you are receiving this email it is because you love big, bold and hoppy beer as much as we do!

As our eye-catching new packaging hits store shelves from coast to coast, we are excited to share some truly important information about the award-winning beer inside each bottle.

In response to your demand for flavorful and extreme IPAs, we have boosted the flavor profiles in two of your long-time Green Flash favorites. Green Flash Brew Master, Chuck Silva has artfully refined the recipes for the trailblazing classic, West Coast IPA, as well as for our luscious red ale, Hop Head Red. As a result of Chuck and the team’s handiwork, both beers have officially reached DOUBLE IPA status. We added a layer of Citra Hops to West Coast IPA, enhancing the beer’s overall hop aroma while emphasizing the beer’s citrus character. Then, struck by another flash of genius, we increased the dry hopping for both brews and upped each beer’s ABV to 8.1%. There is no doubt that certain that the reformulation of these beers will delight your highly evolved craft beer palate.

These details are now listed on each label, and we look forward to sharing our commitment to the evolution of brewing perfection with you for many years to come.

Cheers to American Craft Beer Week, and the men and women who are passionate about making the best craft beer in the world!

I bought a new West Coast IPA at a liquor store in San Diego yesterday. Haven't tasted it yet though.

I'm drinking one now and while I was never able to taste the original recipe fresh, I can attest to this one being pretty tasty. Of course there's no date on it, but it tastes fresh and "west-coasty" lol. Nice flavor profile and aroma..

Very interesting development and I have always LOVED WCIPA. I have not seen the label change appear in Columbus, OH yet and cannot wait to buy some. Fresh Green Flash beers? Cannot wait.

Don't f with palette Wrecker please I like the layers of flavor, malt at first then caramel, then citrus and bitter hops with a abv burn. Excuse me Hamiltons Ale.

I love the original recipe and consider it highly underrated. I'm not sure why a double IPA variation could not be added to the lineup without scrapping the original. Oh, and should it get a new listing on BA? How is this handled?

I agree that it's odd it's not a different beer, since it's a higher ABV as well as having a different hop treatment to it compared to the original.. Not to mention it being not nearly as sessionable..

The new labeling sucks, what were they thinking?

Bummer, West Coast was one of my favorites. And yeah, the new labels look like they belong on a Coors Lite

Not nearly as sessionable?? You'd have to drink 5+ to add another unit of alcoho, WCIPA was 7.3% before.

As for taste, I haven't tried (or seen) the new, but WCIPA was always a pretty malty IPA. More caramel malt than most other IPA's, which many say distracts from the hops, and thus advise to keep caramel malt low.

Personally, I loved it, but I've always been a (huge) fan of hoppy caramel-y beers, like hoppy reds and ESB's. However, I'm not saying WCIPA was sweet at all, but pretty damn bitter; the caramel malt takes away from the "juicy" aspect of IPA's, many said the old WCIPA was one of the most dry and bitter-tasting IPA's to them.

The labels were great and West Coast was great. Why change??

How could Citra hurt WIPA though? Curious to try it

I'd say the new version is not as good but West Coast IPA went downhill years ago. I suspect they changed the dry hopping four or five years ago because the 11th anniversary double dry hopped tasted exactly ho I remembered west coast tasting back in 2006-2008.

So instead of bringing out another new DIPA, they changed one of their existing IPAs to a DIPA - 7.3% to 8.1%?
What a pity - it's not like there aren't other Green Flash DIPAs in the same range.
Can someone tell me what else has to happen to make an IPA into a DIPA besides a 0.8% change in ABV?

So what is the difference between West Coast IPA and their Imperial IPA now that they're changing the recipe?

I can't give you a technical answer, but the new WCIPA tastes very similar to the old one and still a lot different than the Imperial IPA.

The brewer has to say: "This is a Double IPA."
