    Good morning guys,

First post here, am liking what I am seeing so far. Am a full time National Guard Combat Medic, looking to retire in a year or two. Building a Irish 'mini-pub', hoping to work in the craft beer industry after retirement.

I am coming to Philadelphia for the first time next month. Dates are not in stone yet but ballpark dates are June 16-27. Plan on hitting (dates allowing) the Philly Beer School for Beer 101, the Tipplers Tour, Philly Brewing Company, and McGillins.

What else would the folks in Philly suggest a craft beer guy MUST see while there? Want to try as many local brews that I can.

Any and all suggestions much appreciated.

Where are you staying while in the city and will you have a car?

Best bars for local brews are Standard Tap and Johnny Brenda's. (Both owned by the same people and only serve beers from breweries ~100 miles away)

Both are now on my 'must do' list. Thanks guys, much appreciated. Anyone else want to put in $.02 as well????

Heck I will probably drive, might throw some Mississippi craft beers in the cooler in case I run into anyone brave enough to try them. Don't get me wrong we have some really good ones, but since the industry is still so new here we have some that aren't that great as well.

Yes looks like I will be driving there. I enjoy driving. I plan to check out the Jack Daniels distillery on the way there. And by driving I will have my own transportation while there.

Not sure where exactly, I am part of a team that will stay halfway between Philly and Fort Dix. Will ask my buddy who booked the hotels the actual address.

Fountain porter is a chill local place with 20 great taps (usually at least a few sours) and the best, most consistently awesome and perfectly cooked burger in philly.

Are there any hotel options near Tired Hands? I`m not having much luck locating one if there is. Also, I assume public transportation isn`t running that far out of town, but are cabs plentiful?

SEPTA runs a regional rail line out to Ardmore and points past. I believe there are buses that head out that way from the city as well. http://www.septa.org/index.html

If you end up on the Jersey side, might try to get to Carton or Kane.

Yard's Brewing is in the city.

STPR & POPE are good in South Philly.
Center City and the Northern Liberties/Fishtown areas are brimming with quality beer bars.

If you want to take the ride out to Victory, they have a nice place.

Thanks to all who have replied so far. Will sit down with Mapquest and figure out a plan of attack to see as many of the suggestions as possible. Of course, I also HAVE to see the great historical locations in Philly.

Any other suggestions please add them guys.

Will post my hotel address as soon as I get it.

Can't help you with Philly suggestions but DO NOT miss the Jack Daniels Distillery, especially if you want to know the difference between green label and black label.

Look over this: http://www.phillytapfinder.com/. Also consider taking SEPTA while you're hear. Driving and parking around town is not much fun.

Below is something I posted in a previous thread.

You may also want to visit Yards Brewing on Delaware Ave.; they have a tasting room.

Philadelphia is a city of neighborhoods. The selection of craft beer is excellent in several of the city’s neighborhoods:

Center City: Monks, Jose Pistolas, Nodding Head, Bru Craft, etc.

Old City: Irish-Pol, Khyber Pass, Eulogy, Gas Light, etc

Northern Liberties: Standard Tap, Abbaye, etc.

Fishtown: Kraftwork, Johnny Brendas, Memphis, etc.

University City (West Philly): Local 44, City Tap House, etc

Art Museum Area: The Belgian Café, Bishops Collar, London Grill, Brigids, etc.

South Philly: Devils Den, P.O.P.E., South Philly Tap Room. Brauhaus Schmitz (South Street).

And then there are outlying neighborhoods of Manayunk, Chestnut Hill/West Mount Airy, etc.

You would almost have to work hard to not find good beer in Philly.

    Cheers!

P.S. If you are interested in starting a ‘shit storm’, ask: Where is the best place to get a cheesesteak in Philly?

    This should be pinned.

Everyone will mention Tired Hands but you should consider Forest and Main in addition to or in place of Tired Hands. F&M offers great beers over a variety of styles, more substantial food to go along with the beer, and a really cool layout and atmosphere. It captures perfectly what they are going for and the styles of beer they put out. Check out Forest and Main, you won't be disappointed.

Not breaking new ground here, but I've found my favorite places to revisit in the city are Monk's and Eulogy, and outside the city is Tired Hands in Ardmore. I usually see what is on tap at Tria as well when I go to Monk's because it is around the corner from Monk's, and have gotten some very good beers there before.

Finding decent hotels between Philly and Fort Dix at a government rate just don't exist. We have reservations at two at the moment, Residence Inn Cranbury South Brunswick and Residence Inn Deptford. Either way alot of driving around and about so it's all good. I am leaning more the one south west of Philly. Opinions and/or alternative hook-ups much appreciated.

May actually bring some southern craft beers with me to have a craft beer swap at the hotel one night I am there if anyone would be interested.
