I used to think of this beer's label whenever the subject of banning beer advertising which allegedly appeals to children (like they do it on purpose) comes up. So when I saw the title of this thread, I immediately thought they were getting rid of the grumpy-looking, cigarette smoking cartoon dog to avoid having the label banned. Instead they encircled him with a red oval. To signify that he's become a target? Dunno.

By the by, anyone know why pug doggy has a helmet with CCCP on it?

He's a cosmonaut? Likely a reference to Laika in some way

Oh of course! I knew that. Ayup. It's so obvious by the...well to anyone who ever read the cartoon. Shows how out of the mainstream of modern American pop culture I am. Everybody loves a good Communist astronaut cartoon cat. Thanks.

That's what I suspected too, until I was directed to the comic strip the character is from, where it's a cat.

Thanks for the Laika link, I never knew that was the spacedog's name, and it would have altered Cold War history if we had learned the truth of what became of her. The ASPCA might have called for the immediate nuking of the Soviet Union.

Overpriced is a relative term. Gumballhead is one I'm willing to pay for, generally speaking

New label due to the new recipe I heard. Just picked some up and it does taste different. Heard they dropped the citra due to cost...

I thought GBH was an all-Amarillo beer?

Also, I agree with the comments about it tasting different. GBH hasn't been as good as it used to be for awhile now. I picked up a 6-pack yesterday and opened one. I think that'll be the last time I buy GBH unfortunately.

Couldn't agree more. I had always loved GBH, but the recipe for this beer has definitely changed recently and not for the better. Combine that with the new price point (I see it regularly at $14.99/6 pack here in the city) and the seemingly hundreds of new beers that enter the city limits each month, and I've likely purchased my last sixer of this formerly wonderful beer.

That being said, I still dig the new Rob Syers art.

I simply won't buy their beer at that price point.

Three Floyd's beer is officially sitting on the floors at Binnys for the first time. Sign that the price is giving people second thoughts. Had those 6packs been $10, they disappear the day they were brought in.

It never had citra. Also don't think they changed the recipe. But there is an alien spaceship hiding in the brewhouse

Gumballhead predates the existence of citra by at least 4 years.

I am done with GBH too. The quality to price ratio just doesn't warrant purchasing this beer IMHO.

100% correct. It used to be an all-Amarillo hopped beer.

I 100% disagree with this. I'm sure that in the last ~12 months, they have significantly changed the recipe. I'd love to hear reliable confirmation/denial of this.

I feel like this is the typical "this beer is different than last years release". It doesn't really make sense to change the recipe to one of your mainstay moneymaking beers. Then again Three Floyds doesn't really make any sense most of the time. If they did change I will eat my words.
