General consensus (and I mostly concur) seems to be that it definitely falls off a bit as the coffee fades, and sort of turns into something different. More of a chocolate stout. Still quite good though, and it would definitely be worth doing a 2012/2014 vertical this fall.

    Dogfish Head Burton Baton.

I've looked over and walked by it a lot and only finally tried it after being sent to me as an extra! Quality DIPA.

If the word turd is now being used for something desirable and sought-after, this is news to me.

Is it really that good? I just saw 3 sitting on the shelf on Friday.

I'm sure it's still good, albeit probably much more different than fresh. The entire line of Goose Island vintage ales are crafted to develop in the bottle for up to 5 years. In fact, I think the bottles all say this on the back label (at least the 2012-2014 bottles do).

I've never had Pere Jacques so I can't say what those bottles would taste like now, but I prefer my Matilda with a couple years on it.

From what I gather, anything that is not a brewery only / limited quantity release is a "shelf turd".
This is regardless of how good it actually is. You cannot trade them for the latest and greatest hype.

Many BAs only hunt walez, hence any beer no matter how good that cannot snag them would still be a turd.

I hear the alternate spelling of "whale" has a back story too.

Funny what you find out when you get into a new hobby and poke around.

North Coast Old Stock Cellar Reserve 2011 is turding it up here. I think I'm the only person that bought any of the case they ordered.

A case of BCBBW that my favorite small wine store had sitting underneath 2 cases of wine back in March.

Sounds like it is sitting all over the Midwest

EDIT - sitting all over the country

I would have to agree. The coffee flavor was not as strong as I was hoping it would be, however, the chocolate was definitely there. I was not disappointed at all though, and will save a bottle for this fall.

I guess I'm shopping at all of the wrong stores. Personally, I think it 100% is.
I hesitate to rank/score beers, but it's at least one of the top tier BA stouts I've ever had and I've had all of the big names. At the very least it's one of the top 3 from CO. Take that any way you want.

Found two "Even more Jesus" just chilling on the shelf a couple weeks ago. Thought that was pretty cool.

Nothing here, beer is so regulated in this state that it's almost impossible for a "rare" beer to sneak through the net to a liquor store in "podunk-ass Southern Maryland".

While I was in DC a couple years back, though, I was able to snag a bottle of FW Sucaba at Connecticut Ave. Wine & Spirits. Keep in mind it was the middle of June.

Snagged a bottle of Fred from the Wood on my trip to Cali back in November. When I got home, I was reading the bottle and realized I had unknowingly grabbed a 2009 Vintage bottle off the shelf.

About a month later, I managed to find a 2009 Pannepot Reserva chilling on the shelf behind some regular Pannepot at a shop near my parents' house. Mmmm.

I feel like I see Dogfish Head World Wide Stout everywhere I go. I don't care how good it is, I'm not paying $10 for a 12 oz bottle.

Up until about a year or so ago you could find FW Vintage series every where around here (CA Central Coast), even multiple vintages on the shelf. I miss those days...

I got a couple 4-packs of 2012 BCBS on Memorial Day weekend of 2013 at a small town grocery store. That was a good find.
