I had my first kbs a couple weeks ago and it just blew my mind. Is there anything out there (preferably with good availability) that's close? Nothing with excessive bourbon flavor though. Definitely not into bourboning up my stouts.

Is the coffee flavor something that you want too?

One of the only fairly easy to find BBA stouts that is usually available year-round is New Holland's Dragon's Milk.

Only released in January and now discontinued by CW. RIP...you were a great beer.

I'd recommend Epic Big Bad Baptist. Awesome coffee imp stout that apparently is widely available from what I'm told.

I do favor the coffee flavor. That rhymes!

Is that a Michigan distribution only? New Hampshire's distribution is pretty weak...

New Holland's distro gets outside of Michigan, but I don't know how far. Check seekabrew.com.

Dragon's milk is no KBS, but as close as you'll get year round wise.

The only beer I've had that really reminded me of KBS was Revoultion Deth's Tar.

That's a tough one. Looking at New Hampshire's distro, I would recommend trying...

+1 on Founders Breakfast Stout, Peche Mortel, and Black Xantus (though I find Xantus a bit hot)

    Also,

Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (more chocolate and roast malt than coffee)
Firestone Walker Parabola (though there's a good amount of barrel here and if you can get it)
    Lagunitas Cappucino Stout
North Coast Old Rasputin (berries and roast malt; little coffee)
Oscar Blues Ten Fidy (lots of roasted malt flavor)
    Victory Storm King

Tyranena devil over a barrel, technically not the same style but as BA coffee beers go its easily as good.

Big Bad Baptist would be the closest that is somewhat easily obtained.

It can be found in Philly. Not bad but IMO: very few match the unique qualities of KBS

Fresh Peruvian morning was probably better than kbs
Such a shame they can't get it right.
