I've been on quest this year to drink and understand some of the lighter beer styles rather than the big stuff that got me into craft beer.

What are your favorite lagers and pilsners in the state?

Finishing off a growler of Live Oak Pilz right now. That and their Hefe are two of my favorite beers made in the US, not just Texas.

    Others that I usually grab:

    Firestone Walker Pivo Pils
    Real Ale Hans Pils
    Austin Beer Works Pearl Snap
Community Vienna Lager (I have not had their Pils yet, need to pick some up if I see it)
    Hops & Grain Zoe
Lots more that I am sure I am not remembering, and will probably be mentioned by others.

I've heard good things about Real Ale's Cali Common, though I'm not sure how it's held up since release.

With most TX German or Czech-style lagers, I find myself wishing I had just bought the imported stuff instead.

Sorry for not posting a Texas beer, but Jack's Abby lagers are amazing. Acquire them if at all possible.

As for ones in Texas, Live Oak's lagers/pilsners, Karbach Mother in Lager, and Ballast Point Fathom IPL come to mind.

Founders next backstage beer is an IPL, forget if it'll see Texas distro.

    Texas Lagers:

    Real Ale Hans Pils

Then there's a bunch of blond ales that drink like lagers:

    Fireman's 4
    Southern Star Bombshell Blond
    ABW Peacemaker

    Other American Craft Lagers/Pils

    Firetone Pivo
    Lefthand Polestar
    Victory Primo Pils
    North Coast Scrimshaw
    Anchor Lager
    Brooklyn Lager
    Sierra Summerfest

    Imports

    Paulaner Pils + Munich Gold
    Hacker Pschor munich Gold
    Spaten Premium
    Koening Pils

I'd like to simply weigh in as a fan of pale, German or German-style lager. It's my second favorite style behind Lambic. This isn't adding anything new to the thread, but I'd second (or 3rd or 4th) the appreciation for Live Oak Pilz. Its hop flavor and aroma are great, but its malt character is special. I assume this to be a product of the decoction mash Live Oak employs. The only malt character in a pale lager that has come close to Live Oak Pilz for me has been Mahr's Pilsner served unfiltered from a traditional German gravity keg. We're lucky to have one of the very best Pilsners in the world in Texas with Live Oak Pilz.

I also really like Real Ale Hans Pils, Victory Prima Pils, and ABGB Industry Pils. Also, from what I've heard, Mahr's is coming to Texas, which I'm excited about. - Jeff

Real Ale's California Common is pretty good. Zoe is also an excellent beer.

No longer available, but Saint Arnold's Icon Red Bohemian Pils was a homerun.

Hello. From the DFW area, Community has a seasonal called Texas Pils and Lakewood has a seasonal called Zomer. Both are very traditional Bohemian Pilsners and delicious. Both are bottled. Peticolas has a Golden Ale/ Kolsch called the Golden Opportunity which is very good. The newly opened Rabbit Hole has a kolsch called Mike Modano's 561 which is good enough. Deep Ellum Brewing just came out in cans with Neato Bandito a so called Mexican Lager which I found a little too sweet but I think it's worth a shot. Those are some to keep an eye out for. As a note, Peticolas does not bottle or can and Rabbit Hole not yet.

This guy has good taste. I agree with all, but just haven't tried the Community Vienna Lager yet.

I'd also add to it Austin Beerwork's Anniversary Kolsch and Austin Beer Garden Brewing co. Pils and Helles if you're in Austin.

Another one I haven't seen yet but usually makes its way to Draught House is Victory Braumeister.

It's not from Texas but the Full Sail Cascade Pilsner is really excellent! Had it at DH. Hope it's bottled!

I love H&G Zoe and Real Ale Hans Pils. Franconia out of McKinney has a Dunkel that I really enjoyed too.
