Anyone have inside scoop on this place?

I was surprised to see the size of the investment in this article:

    http://seattle.eater.com/archives/2...ewing-co-will-chance-the-face-of-broadway.php

Reminds me of discussions I've had with some folks about the difficulty of opening a really large brewery. From a simple cash flow perspective you sink in a bunch of money, get all new equipment, and have to start making money before you really know how to use the equipment and have your recipes tuned and understand the ebbs and flows of demand.

I'd love for them to succeed - particularly if their actually making great beer - but so far I see no mention of the a brewer, any kind of style focus, any vision for this from a beer perspective ... there's more discussion of it as a business. Seems sort of anonymous at this point. (Yes, I know, they won't even open for almost another year so I'm jumping the gun in drawing conclusions ... but the internet was invented to facilitate unfounded speculation).

Sounds like a glass-half-full kind of joint.

Next Tuesday I'll staple a blank piece of paper to the phone pole closest to the entrance to Archie McPhee, and you can write out the details for me. How's that work?

Hey, that discussion sounds framiliar. Hope some of these new places can bring something new to the market, like Prairie Ales with Saisons, or something similiarily stylistically focused. I wonder how much interest Browns or dare I say Lagers would generate if done well and maybe not quite so traditionally. or...just make a great IPA.

You think he'd actually go write out the details? That might be a bit optimistic.

That's how they're going to make their money. You pay for a full pint, they pour it halfway. It's up to you to decide whether it's half empty or half full. They will quickly weed out the pessimists who never return, leaving a loyal following of optimists willing to pay full price for half a beer. Pretty genius, really.

Or look at it this way, your paying double due to getting half of the regular product. But these people did spend 6 million on their location so I guess it wont hurt too bad if this idea fails, it seems that they have money. They better make the best beer ever because I'd say about 99percent of their customers will think this is the most lame thing ever. This isnt a way of encouraging people to think more optimistically, its a ploy to price gouge the bejeezus out of customers. I suggest they have a pint glass that is double the size of a regular pint glass and then pour that one half full, then it would be a great idea.

Seattle so needs a Saison/Farmhouse type brewery. I mean Portland has Upright and The Commons.

Based on the name, I'm hoping they play doom metal in the taproom ... then it won't matter how quiet you are; no one will hear you.
