Are people more drawn to beers that are brewed only once and then gone, or beers that are part of a core lineup?

If a bar has a one-off special beer that you won't see again, are you inclined to try it because it'll be your only chance to do so, or is it more appealing to opt for a year-round offering that you've never had with the hope that you'll discover a new favorite that you can go back to again and again?

I always try to order beers I haven't had before so for me the one-off definitely gets the attention. Unfortunately I keep getting drunk texts from Goose Island Proprietors and Apple Brandy Hunahpu's wanting to hook up now. :slight_frown:

I was just talking after a tasting tonight about Two Hearted. It will always have a soft spot in my heart. Will always be one of my favorite beers ever, period. Beer to me is like great music, nostalgic in the best of ways.

Most of the beers I buy tend to be one-offs. I guess it's that feeling of never being able to buy it again.

    your analogy is awesome.
yeah, resin is definitely my relationship beer.... most of my one night stand beers are rare stouts... often BA.

In most local bars, I *might* try the special, but only if it sounds like it could be my style. Usually, I don't like them as much as something else I already know on the menu....I'm busy procuring new IPAs and stouts continually (my fav styles), so it would be unusual to find one I didn't know in an average bars...
If I go to a good craft bar, I definitely would pick from the year-round selections.... that's how I found falco and even more jesus!

Lots of variables depending on things like style, location etc. but generally speaking with all else being equal, I'll go for the one-off

Whichever one I will score me more "show-off" points on Untappd. That is the name of the game.

If I only have the option of getting one beer at said bar, I'd probably go for the one off if it was in a style that I enjoy. I can get a SN pale ale anywhere anytime which is amazing because its world classbut if I see something interesting then I might as well try it

I've had long term relationships before; but, frankly, I can't stay faithful for long, especially when I spy some tall, dark, sexy BA hanging out in the bar that I know I'll never see again. I tell myself that a quick hookup won't be so bad, that my regular will never know, but they always find out in the end. My faithlessness always sends me packing, looking for a new love.

Oh, wait a minute. Are we talking beer?

When I saw this thread title, I immediately correlated it to the 'best BANG for your buck' thread. I may have a dirty mind though.

    I prefer the one-night stand
As my Sculpin sits lonely and cold
While I grab some sexy mature stout I had never known
    A new definition of a beer ****, I'll try the one-off everytime.

Great, now I feel dirty paying money for beer.

But at least when it comes to beer, I'm actually getting some.

I was a one and done beer drinker but now I am faithful to several beers and several breweries.

Both. More so at home I have long term relationships. Like with Reds Rye. Available year round at the taproom and for an $8 growler fill I am most inclined to get this to go and drink when I'm at home. Especially now that its not bottled year round.

When I am drinking at Founders I am more likely to have a one or two night stand although they have had BA Reds Rye on draft for a while now so I kinda got a long term relationship going on their too. I am realizing while typing this that I might need a RR intervention?

When it comes to picking a beer,
    Familiar, new, or old?
The one I seem to pick
Is the one in fridge and cold.

I'm a beer man *****. I definitely have my hoes (beers) that I keep going back to because they do it right. But I can't resist trying some new sexy bitch that comes along and catches my eye, or even the ones who are at the bar every week, just haven't made my way over to scoop them up yet.

I have both of these relationships with DFH. I tend to go steady with 60 and 90 Minute, whereas I have one night stands with their Ancient Ale and other specialty offerings.

I would marry Alpine Nelson and sneak off for an RR sour from time to time. Maybe invite Consecration over for a threesome.
