If I produced 6.75 post boil gallons at 1.073, and then topped off with 1.5 gallons of water, what is my new OG?

I'll teach you to fish, just remember math's our friend:

    6.75 * (1.073 - 1) = 0.49275

    0.49275 / (6.75 + 1.5) = 0.05973

    0.05973 + 1 = 1.05973

So my guess with measurement you're going to around a 1.058 to 1.061 measured OG, approaching the rounded calculated 1.060.

    Or an easier way...

    73 * (6.75/8.25) = 60

    1.060

I was never really a "show your work" kind of guy in algebra class.

OP: The thing to realize is that for a fixed amount of sugars and dextrins, gravity (technically Gravity - 1) is inversely proportional to volume.

Didn't you just give him a fish? Anyways, screw math, but I'm glad there's some mathletes around here if I have a similar query.

Giving him a fish would have been simply providing the answer without breaking the derivation down for him. Fortunately for you, this board has metaphorletes in addition to mathletes....

Nice ninja edit, but yeah I need all the help I can get!

My "ninja edit" was just revising my quote of your previous post from partial to full (to include your "mathlete" part in order to give more direct context to my "metaphorlete" reply), but glad to be of service

Thanks guys, 1.060 is roughly what I had hoped for.
