I recently came across a liquor store with several bottles of GI Lolita, just sitting on the shelf, literally collecting dust. Am I in the right to clean them out, and send these bottles to a better home? For the record I already have 2 of these bottles, but I'd love to trade them to people that don't have access to these beers. Secondly, would this help the store with the distributor, for possibly acquiring more GI or other hard to find beers in the future? There were also several bottles of Mirror Mirror, and O'Dell Friek collecting dust next to them as well. Thanks

If they have been sitting, I'm sure the beer store is more than happy to sell them all to you.

If it's a hot brand new release, it would be a bad move...but most stores put bottle limits into play to combat that behavior.

I say go for it in this instance

In this instance I can tell h that ur doing the store a favor!! Lol there r many stores that have them from last year and at $27 or so it's a bit ridiculous. Especially when things like pro and cherry rye were around $22!!!

If I see beer I want to drink and it's available on a shelf I buy as much as I want without thinking twice. Same thing with food at a grocery store.

Buy it all except one. If you go back in two weeks and its still there buy it. Same goes when you find multiples of a gem in the mix-a-six. That is my personal rule.

Unless it is a new incoming limited release that you know tons of people are looking for, go right ahead. Why should you have to sacrifice because other people are not as dilligent/fortunate as you? If it truly is a beer that everyone is looking for, the store will impose a limit. If there is no limit, go and do as you wish.

Sounds like you know the answer to your own questions...yes. They have been there awhile...buy away, give away, trade away! Cheers!

I did that once because the store told me the distributor was going to stop giving them barrel aged beers if the new batch sits like the ones from last year. Well I took all but two of the new batch and half of the old. A few weeks later they were all gone and now he restocks and sells them out pretty routinely.

If it's been sitting, go for it! Brand new releases I restrain myself, but if they've been sitting then other people have had their chance. And like the guy above me mentioned, you're helping make room for new beers.

I went into a store a few weeks ago and they had Bruery Saison de Lente for 50% off. Obviously trying to get rid of it, so I bought all 8 bottles. I'm happy, the shop owner is happy, and he can order something new for that shelf slot.

I'm with leaving one (depending what it is) for the next man, but other than that, buy away!

I can see that it might be good business practice for a store to limit the number of any one type that you buy if it helps them retain a broader customer base. More customers coming in to buy special release probably means more sales for the standard fare. On the other hand, if the store doesn't enforce this limit, it's not your job as the consumer to second guess his business practice. Buy away, if you think it is a good deal.

You shouldn't clean them out and I'll tell you why.

People cannot vote with their wallet at the ever increasingly stupid higher prices they are trying to charge. Leaving them on the shelf shows that consumers don't want this beer at that price. You are destroying that by buying it all up at regular price.

The only time I have qualms about cleaning out a store is if it's something like KBS or Parabola, and the store didn't realize it should be limiting. Lolita has sat on shelves for ages

Well once ABC liquors was closing out their Rochefort. It never sold there. its a liquor store in Florida go figure. this was like 2001 or 2 I think (not sure dates). anyway I seen it for 1 buck a bottle. I went to every store in all of Duval county that had any left. needless to say. yep I bought every bottle left. never felt any guilty its not like anyone cared. the store is selling it.
I do love a bargain....:grinning::grinning::grinning: btw I called stores all the why to Gainesville.

beer like that used to just sit here in the SE on shelves for years....

I always leave 1 bottle unless there is only 1 bottle there. Other than that, all bets are off..

The way i see it is, if it doesnt feel right then it probably isnt....this is all relative to how limited the beer is, too...i would feel totally fine with picking up a case of stone ipa regular...but a case of stone enjoy by is a pretty ****tish move(if that was possible in this state to begin with)

Holy cannoli! You would be doing that store such a favor!

Not only should you buy that store out, you should follow that up by buying the cases and cases of that unsellable beer from the bottle shop I work at that we are sitting on too.
