I visited the brewery this past weekend and couldn't have been happier that I did! Over the past few months I had seen a few tap handles of Gneiss around Portland and was curious about them. I love wheat based beers and was glad to see a local brewery that would be brewing some of the over-looked styles that I love (dunkelweizen, wheat stout, Hefeweizen, etc.). The drive to the brewery is very nice, right through the heat of western Maine farmland and is well worth a visit if you are in the area. Growler fills are very reasonably priced at $10-18 (with a $5 deposit on the growler) and the guy who brews/is a part owner (Dustin) was great fun to talk to and really into showing off their setup. He graciously took the time to show me and my fiance around, talk about the finer points of their beers, and was just downright fun to talk to. If you see their beers around I strongly encourage you to try them. I even more strongly encourage people to visit the brewery, you will enjoy great beer and get the opportunity to talk to some really cool guys. We visited yesterday. We loved the beer and chatting to the brewers. Its way off the beaten track but definitely worth it if you like their styles. I was really impressed by Tweiss it drank dangerously easily.
The Tweiss is nice (Gneiss, couldnt help myself). I really love the weiss though, so damned drinkable!
Just realized my wife's family lake house is literally 10min from here. Anyone have anymore experiences? Also, the dreaded growler policy question.... Can I fill another company's growler? Gonna check it out regardless this weekend, really happy it's so close, thanks!
Sounds like tomorrow's the day to visit if you like hops. All four of their hoppy beers will be on. I might have to go check them out tomorrow.
Went today, really enjoyable. Nice group of people working there and solid, quality German beers. 10mins from the camp, can't be beat! The Weisse and Tectonic were excellent
Yes it is. I think buying a 64oz growler is $5 and all of their beers range from $10-15. If your out in that area I strongly encourage a visit!
