Was at a Cicerone training class last night taught by a certified Cicerone who is head brewer that puts out a 100 rated beer here on BA. we were covering wheats and had Blvd wheat as a American example. He had not had one in quite sometime and was surprised how good it was. definatly a shelf beer. good enough for him, works for me.

Geez.... I drink mostly "shelf beer" as its called. If its fresh and its good I don't see what the problem is? If you have such a sophisticated palate you cant drink anything other than "special beers" I feel bad for you for all the good your missing out on. It can be intimidating with all the choices in craft beer but I mean damn people this isn't a competition to see who drinks the best quality beer. You find beer, you like it, you drink it and have a good time. My rant is over, Sorry BA had to vent a little.

There are many shelf beers that shine well over harder to get beers. "Shelf beers" are what keep most breweries open and able to do one offs at all.

After almost 10 years of drinking tons of Blvd Unfiltered Wheat I have not had a Blvd Wheat in over 12 years. I am travelling to a state with Blvd distribution very soon and having a pint of Blvd Unfiltered Wheat is very high on my list

Depends what shelf you're looking at.

And lately for off the shelf, I've really been enjoying Goose Island Endless and Stillwater Classique.

Wow that's an awesome solution! Why didn't I think of that? I'm gonna go try that right now!

Lately I've been REALLY depressed and I've even contemplated giving up being a BA altogether. I just didn't feel like I had what it takes. Every time I brought home some whalez I would put them on a shelf in my cellar and they would turn into...(whisper) shelf beers!!! Now I have hope. Thanks spicelab!

Just using the term "shelf beer" makes you sound like a snob.

Saying "I don't drink shelf beer" sound to me like "I'm a rich braggart who thinks he's better than everyone"

no offense to the OP. I know nothing about you and I don't mean to imply that you are a rich braggart. I'm just letting you know how it sounds to me, and judging from the comments a lot of others hear it the same way.

read my whole post. I clearly said that I do not think that about the op, and I was just advising him on how it sounds.

Right, I read and reread the whole post.

I saw that you were trying to "advise" him.

Did you know that your post makes you sound insecure in your financial situation? Now, I am not saying that you are insecure in your financial situation, but I am merely advising you that that is how it sounded to me.

Ok. that's fair. I am insecure in my financial situation, but at time in my life when I was very financially secure, I would have still thought the same thing and said it the same way.

If its not on a shelf at my local stores, it doesn't exist.

We should start calling rare/limited beers douche beers.
