How often do you drink shelf beer?

Rarity and quality may have a correlation but they're certainly not equivalent. I want to drink Weihenstephaner more often than I want to drink whales. And the whales I have had aren't that much better than the best shelf beers.

I'm very picky when it comes to shelf beers but I drink way more of them than whales.

And by the way, where did the term whales come from? Is it a Moby Dick reference? Does anyone else find it the least bit ironic that people proudly embrace a symbol of self destructively illogical obsession?

Summer is taking it's time to arrive here in CT but In the summer months I end up gojng towards the lighter styles, pale ales and session beers. I'll have an ipa here and there but I save those for fall and winter months. I drink ipa's during a good portion of the year.

 

I'm with you on the seasonal releases....shelf beers, but not on the shelves for long.

 

That's funny, as I have grown into craft beer I find myself driven away from the nsanity of limited releases and find most "shelf turds" quite pleasant now. Funny that, iinnit?

 

I forgot, I also had a pint of Abita Jockomo in there, too.

 

Hahahaha, shelf beer is shit. I leave beers like Hopslam, Sucaba, KBS, and Black Note to gather dust for all you plebs while I ask the cashier if there's any BA Abraxas or Fou' Foune behind the counter. Granted, I had to chase that fucking distribution truck since 4 AM to get several allotments of BA Abraxas, but unlike you peasants, I ended up with a whole case of it.

Now if you excuse me, I'm going to drink some of it while listening to my rare Deathspell Omega vinyls, because fuck you.

Depends on what you mean by "shelf beer." I regularly partake in Saison Dupont and some other Belgians like Rochefort 10 that are available pretty much all the time. Other than that, if it ain't in my cellar, I'd prefer to make it myself.

 

Shelf beer? My beer comes from the bucket filled with ice next to the register. The cashier gently slides it into a brown bag and I am off an drinking! So, no shelf beer for me.
