Seriously, what are you buying?? The only things I can think of that are that high are the Goose Island fancy Belgian sisters and stuff from the Bruery. And I don't think I've ever seen a 500mL bottle for that much, not even those Stone beers.

That said, due to cost considerations I've started buying beer primarily from the grocery store instead of liquor stores, and highly recommend it. That is of course, if you can - I don't know what the liquor laws are like in other states. But I can usually get six packs for as little as $7 (not AALs).

It always baffles me how people complain about paying $13-$15 for a 6pack, yet not think twice about buying a $10-$15 bomber.

Was it Samuel Smith's Yorkshire Stingo? That is the only one that I can think of with that specific size and general cost (although I have seen them cheaper). But that beer was worth it in my opinion. I have had way more than my share of it over the years since it came out.

Living in WI and seeing what everyone else on BA is paying for the same beers humbles me and I really don't complain about prices. I could have it a lot worse.

I trade as well and people wonder why I'm so generous when in reality $4$ and oz for oz you get more beer for your money here than just about any place else in the US.

The exception seems to be oskar blues for whatever reason.

I had a Lost Abbey Deliverance Ale last night. 12.7 ounces, but it was $16.25 (before tax or deposit). So $1.28 per ounce. It's not something I could afford to buy with any regularity but I am glad to have tried it at least once.

And it's hard to make the comparison from a bomber (or single bottles) to a 6 pack. For example, recently had a Ballast Sculpin bomber for $7. Bought a 6 pack (cans) of Sculpin for $14.00. Same beer - but 32 cents per oz out of the bomber but only 19 cents per oz out of the can.

Bombers are overpriced period to me,no matter the cost.i find myself looking at the store and crunching the numbers in my head to see what's a better deal, and the six pack always wins.now that being said I do buy bombers but I rarely go above ten bucks on one, probably only twice actually.when it comes to four packs that are high priced I buy those often.thats why I give so much credit to brewers who give u a good quality beer in a six pack for ten bucks or under.

I hear many people talk about particular bombers being cheap but in most cases 6 packs are always a lower cost per ounce. There are exceptions of course.

I started home brewing and I would say making quality beer isn't cheaper. Particularly when many beers are heavily hopped. All those hops and malt to balance the beer isn't cheap. As the demand increases supplies decease and I can only see the costs going up.

I spent $9.30 including tax today for a 22 oz of Sweetwater Dank Tank Johnny Hash so that's roughly .42 per ounce which would equal $30.42 for a six-pack. Granted this was at the overpriced downtown bottle shop and I only bought it because I knew my favorite bottle shop that had it for cheaper was out of stock. It is funny that we sometimes don't bat an eye at paying way more per ounce for bombers when we really want a particular beer and even more funny that I somehow turned on the italics and don't know how to turn them off...

No, it isn't. I generally stay away from beers that cost that much for the same reason I generally stay away from $200 pairs of shoes(homebrew42's reference,) I feel insulted when I see those price tags.

I buy Goose Island 12 packs for $12. At those prices, I feel like a consumer with power. I can drink gallons of Honkers and it's way better than most bitters around here. Yesterday, I bought a four pack of Bitter Brewer from Surly and I feel I wasted $10 when I could have had 12 bottles of Honkers for $2 more. Same with Summit Saga. What a deal. Around here, you can probably find a 12 pack of Saga for around $12.

With Saga and Goose IPA in cans now, this summer belongs to Summit and Goose Island.

I just bought two six packs yesterday - Long Trail Mostly Cloudy for $10 plus tax and deposit ( 5 cents per bottle) and Breckenridge Summer Bright Ale for $12 plus tax and deposit. Most of the six packs I buy are $10-12 plus tax and deposit.

It does if they are making it by hand (hand stiching) and using premium leather instead of pleather (premium ingredients)...takes more time and effort, using higher quality material = differential costs.

$0.10 per bottle here in MI. Are you unfamiliar with the concept? When purchasing beer, pop, etc cans and bottles require a deposit which is refunded when you return them to the store. That's why I usually have a mountain of empty bottles and cans in my garage. I look like the biggest alcoholic in the world when I return them to the store and my cart is overflowing with them. But I usually get back $20 or so and get a couple of 6ers for "free" so to speak.

Also Founders 6ers can be found for $8.49 around here. Shorts would be on the higher end up to 12.99.

Exactly what I am saying! When I bought my first bomber I thought it would be less per ounce than buying a six pack. People won't pay that much for a six pack but with bombers they don't seem to care.

The better way to put it is: The retail price of consumer products has a lot more to do than only with how much they cost to make.
