If a 10 dollar four pack is at the upper end of your acceptable price range then you aren't really ready for most beers that don't see a shelf.

I pretty much only drink "shelf beer". I don't have the time nor the inclination to trade or truck-chase. I am the proletariat of craft beer enthusiast.

I can honestly say that, after all my time on this site as a member & previous lurker, this is the most ignorant topic I've seen yet.

99% shelf beer. In my experience whalez cost three times the price and are only slightly better, if that, than shelf beer.

Wow this thread is moronic and absurd. Just strengthens Hop King 's points made in another thread that exclusive/limited beers are hurting this hobby.

And what's with this OP? I've said it before but his ratings are hilarious. Talk about over rating and fluffing extremely mediocre St Louis beers like four hands.

And wonder if there are regional biases in ratings. Look no further than Biff.

You probably need to go find that thread cause it was about normal regular style shelf beers commanding $10/4 pack. Specialty beers clearly and deservedly command a higher price tag.

I do a mixture. I usually enjoy the go to stuff more. Many of the "limited" beers I try just don't quite hit the mark. Plus I just can't drink more than one of those without wrecking the tastebuds during a session. Biff, I enjoyed this thread. People can call whatever they want, but this thread blew up quickly & I enjoy these threads more than 90% of the other threads out there now.

TBH, all I drink is shelf beer. I occasionally goto the pub and drink a couple of pints.

Screw that, when I started in craft beer it was to avoid crap. The whales are dessert, the shelf beer is dinner.

Lets be honest, it's almost impossible to get 'rare' beer in MD. :stuck_out_tongue: FW's barrel-aged offerings...um, I think Eclipse was available in some stores this year...Bruery stuff like Sucre and Oude Tart...BCBS variants if you're lucky...and that's it.

Between many FW barrel-aged beers not being as good as the hype train indicates, Eclipse being $30 a bottle, getting BCBS in St. Mary's County (no variants, though), and my wariness of every buying another Bruery anniversary ale, I'm not really missing anything.

The only problem is that if I want "rare", I have to go to NOVA and get lucky...
