Was browsing the trade forum and noticed a FT/ISO that actually listed "RARE!" in the subject of the FT/ISO adjacent to the beer name that was being offered for trade. Has it really come to this? Are we really so "rare" obsessed that knowing that something is rare is enough to build want? Do we feel that we have better chances of catching someone's eye and getting a click by listing that a beer is rare as an advertising method (as seen on evilbay) or to inform the masses about a beer that they might not already be on their radar? does it even matter if a beer is rare? i know that in the whale game, current taste profile rarely matters...but most, perhaps all of the big name whales were at least at one point in time, the kind of beer that would make you float in your seat upon first sip. and we all know that rare doesn't always mean desirable and conversely sometimes the most sought after beers are the furthest from being rare. when i see someone list "RARE!" in the title of their post, all it signifies to me is that they are going to hold the beer that they are trading in high regard and certainly be looking for something "RARE!" in return...or at least $4$ to match said "RARE!"ness of their beer. discuss...

Yes we are definitely "rare" obsessed. If I invited you to a tasting where the highlights were Stone IPA and Troegs hop back would you bother showing up? Fuck that, I wouldn't even go. No way can I have a good time with friends unless I got 2oz or less of some vintage gueuze to pontificate over.
No, that's not what he was referring to. He was talking about the guy posting that his beer was rare like some kind of advertisement. I think it's helpful actually. It prevents me (and I am sure lots of other people) from wasting time opening the post.

Looks like it worked. I would like to see more locals ISO/FT, so many great beers that are local or regional only. It's a Whale Hunt almost exclusively right now, or asking for the moon on a new Ltd release, which is too bad with so much great beer out there. Still shaking my head over a single Iso: 1 KBBS that was well over $200 worth of beer plus the shipping costs and crickets. No one beer could be as good as the combo of stellar beers that were offered in trade, rare as hell or not.
