    New Brew Thursday! I've seen this on the shelves and the forum, and despite what seemed like a lack-luster response from the community, pulled the trigger the other day.

    Lagunitas NightTime American Black Ale

    This is exactly what I want in a black IPA (whatever they want to call it; it's a black ale, with 65 IBU, and a ton of hops)! Hop-forward (dominant, even) in both aroma and flavor, with a smooth, chocolatey malt backbone along for the ride. Very bitter, but most prominently from the hops (instead of the roast).

    These hoppy black ales may not be your cup of tea (glass of beer?), but this is one worth trying, and well worth the price. Very, very well done Lagunitas!

    Ah yes, this one has aged well...less coffee, but the beer around it improved. It now has a great mocha flavor and - dare I say - finally lives up to the hype.

    American porter versus english porter, so, yeah, it probably is a bit more like an american brown ... more hopped. Both great examples of different variants of the porter style.
