Rarity is all in the eye of the beholder. One man's garbage is another man's treasure. If you don't participate in trading, then most of the beers are rare. But if you trade on a regular basis and have RTP near IA and VT, then, yes, most can be traded for. I trade regularly cuz I like to try different stuff, but I will say trading for the HF, TG, Dinner and especially Triple Sunshine wasn't easy.

It wasn't about rarity for the bottle share, it was about sharing the craft beer love. That is all.

Perfectly stated Joe, we had a blast last night for all the right reasons. the love and advocacy of sharing and the enjoyment that it brings to like minded people, thats what I'm in it for.

    Cheers,

thread would have been better titled

    "Bottle share tonight/tomorrow/X-day at Beachwood"

Cause otherwise it just becomes a bit of showing off. Either that or take it to PM's to thank whomever for bringing whatever if you're not going to open invite others to ti.

Sounds like I missed a good night at BWbbq-n-B. It's all about the beers, isn't it?

Considering most of the thread consists of people bickering about the relative rarity of beers, or who's closer friends with the staff, I'm not sure that's the case.

    Notes to self:

    1. Always consider elitist hoarders who spend their lives acquiring every beer known to man via trades, etc before posting about such a pedestrian bottle share like the one the other night.
    2. Remember that beers should never be called "ultra hard to get". The fact that the majority of people shop locally and don't have the time and or inclination to devote time to tracking down these beers is irrelevant.
    3. Remember that the main purpose of this board is to rip on people looking for places to go in SD and that all posts should relate to that, not a positive thread about a fun night of sharing beers.

    Totes jelly of shelf beer.

But yeah this thread was just poorly thought out. No date of share. A post about a share to begin with (guess I should post about Beachwood SB every week?). And the use of "ultra-hard-to-get".

Yeah OP, I personally like hearing about good bottle shares even if I wasn't able to attend. All this bickering in a thread that started so positive is just silly. Hope it doesn't stop you from posting about future shares! I'd like to make it down to Long Beach with all my bullshit shelf turds sometime and join in the fun.

And to the argument of not sharing bottles at a place that produces those styles...have you looked at Beachwoods tap list? I see stouts, sours, ipas, saisons, etc. Just because you happen to drink IPAs there, doesn't mean shit. In the end, it's up to the venue to determine what is disrespectful. The staff can have a discussion with the people sharing bottles if they have a problem.

Great post, Mike was simply commenting on a great time we all had Thursday night. Sadly trolls like Frogout69 or whatever he calls himself take the intellect level of this board to all time lows. It must suck to be so miserable in life. Mike PM me so i can set you up on our other board where you won't have to subject yourself to 24 yr old boys with the conversational abilities of a small soap dish.

    Cheers,

Shelf turds shared with good people>wales shared with @#$holes The beer community is more than how many rare beers can I collect. Sounds like you had fun.

I always view it as if it was a private enough share that the information couldn't be posted about on here, then why are you posting the aftermath and thanks to others? It doesn't serve to help the community in much way. It would be like posting a thread about "Oh man, and that Beachwood Barrel Age 100 bottle count release that wasn't announced last night.. so off the chains!"

We should be able to post whatever (well almost whatever) here being it a share event (private or public) or about the newest beer you had. Yes we could post via beer mail. But thats besides the point. A bottle share is a bottle share. No matter if its all ipa's or others styles or a mix. And it doesn't have to be out of this world, hard to get, across the border beers. There are a lot of newbies, wannabes here that have no clue and would love to get involved with craft beer good or bad. Thats how you get involved. By reading other peoples threads on a bottle share can be a positive thing on those who's starting out. I do not trade or go out of my way to find the rarest beer. I like a good ipa/dipa and and happy with what we have here in California. I will drive 2 or 4 hours to get what I know I already enjoy drinking. There are so many great ipa's and beers beyond California that we all will never be able to get or try. I believe we produce some of the best damn beers in this nation. And for those who want to mess with others about it should be banned from here. Remember it's about the beer and having a conversation amongst friends.

Food for thought, but if you're going to be posting a private event on a public forum, don't be surprised if folks crash your event. You might think, "cool, the more, the merrier" but planning an event and executing it successfully takes quite a bit of effort, especially if there's a lot of moving parts. For instance, bringing enough glassware for 12 people only to find out there are 12 + 8 crashers.

Furthermore, posting about the aftermath may seem exclusionary, especially to those that might feel slighted for not having been invited. If you're all about advocacy, anything that may be interpreted as exclusionary would be counter-productive.
