Broken bottles

    Bottle broke on way, like everyone else said your trading partner needs to replace the bottle.

    I'm think I'm beginning to have a similar problem. I received a broken bottle and he said he'd send out a replacement Monday. This was Sunday and I haven't heard a word since. I know he's been active on here but the message hasn't been "read". I'm assuming he just read it through his regular email as opposed to BA. My question, I'm worried if I leave bad feedback, he'll do the same. Is there anyway around this?

    I'd give him a little more time to make good on this before worrying too much or especially leaving bad feedback... only been a couple days

    Though I agree the person needs to replace the bottle, I will say that being annoyed at the other trader because the bottle broke isn't necessarily called for. I've shipped over 40 trades. I think I pack ok. In one of my latest trades, a bottle broke. Thankfully, it was an extra ... but the point is, it happens. If the guy bubble wrapped and packed decently, it's just part of the risk. Truly haphazard and insufficient packaging is a different story. But I've actually found that packed bottles are less fragile than you might think. I've received some boxes that look trampled by elephants with everything inside intact.

    Was the broken bottle part of the trade or an extra? If it was part of the trade, then he has an obligation to make it right. If it was an extra, this is a pretty gray area. Either way, it is entirely too early to worry about feedback. Give them some time.

    Let them get some shopping done. I would expect you will be getting your broken bottle replaced along with some other things for your troubles.

    I disagree with this part. If it is an extra, other than the smell and stickiness, I see no reason to bitch and certainly no requirement to replace. I say that, but I also say this: if an extra that I send breaks, I send another small box with a replacement bottle.

    It was part of the trade. A tree house 750ml. I wasn't planning on leaving feedback yet as it's only been a couple days. I just wanted to know. The part that concerns me is that I asked how his package arrived and then for the tracking number and he isn't responding, yet he's been active on here. Just preparing myself.

    Yeah... I should have been more clear.

    If I send an extra and it breaks, I will send another box or make sure I hook them up in our next trade.

    Most traders will hook you up even if it is a broken extra... but it should not be expected.

    All's well that ends well, said a man who is a far better writer than me! To put an end to this thread, or at least the original post, my trading partner and I have totally kissed an made up. Yes, there was a communication glitch, but he sent me a replacement for the broken bottle + some really sweet extras. I am a forgiving soul :rolling_eyes: Thank you to all of you experienced trader BAs for your feedback and support. The BASS was the broken bottle, everything else was an extra :slight_smile:

    Glad to hear this worked out.

    Quick threadjack: any opinion on a perfectly packed box, but the cap pops off (no glass breakage) during shipment?. This recently happened to me. The other trader let it go because it wasn't a significant bottle and he realized there was nothing I could have done differently. Is this common etiquette?

    Sounds about right, things like this that are out of the control of each party need to have common sense and fair play applied.

    Good work on both sides to overcome problem.

    Locking this, but leaving it here for reference....this is how the trading community should work.
