This is not a huge deal, but when packing a box, please consider using rubber bands instead of tape when securing bubble wrap on bottles.

    Advantages:
    1) bubble wrap stays intact and becomes more re-useable
    2) rubber bands are cheaper than tape
    3) wife won't ask you to get the tape from basement
    4) less waste
    5) easier to unpack a bottle secured w/ rubber band

I know this has been discussed, but trying to raise some awareness after a string of boxes with taped bubble wrap. Thanks.

I use electrical tape. You can still reuse the bubble wrap and its easier than rubber bands

Scotch tape is fine, easy to peel off with no damage to the bubble wrap.

I have been using Saran Wrap lately. Feels like a few layers of that keeps everything in place.

I don't mind a little tape but I've gotten a couple where the ENTIRE BOTTLE was tightly wrapped in tape. Really annoying. If I'm packing tightly I usually don't secure the bubble wrap at all, if I need to I use painters tape.

A few years back an inspired trader packed my bottles in these genius devices:

I can't count how many times I've re-used them! 2 trips to London, 3 to Chicaco, 1 to Brussels... I swear the TSA guys at SFO can probably recognize my luggage simply by the envelopes.

I almost always use rubber bands when I pack a box. There was an exception when I ran out and I had to use painters tape (Scotch Blue) Just enough to keep the bubble wrap sealed. It seemed to come off fine. (I tested it first.)

I support this thread. Rubber bands are great, whether you are sending or receiving.

I just wrap it bubble wrap and put the seam side down. Nothing moves and the receiver can reuse it all

Ditto, used to use Saran Wrap but stopped altogether and have never had the bubble wrap unwrap itself as far as I know.

Love using, and getting rubber bands. I won't go as far as to say that it's "annoying" to get an overly taped bottle but it does suck! Bubble wrap gets expensive, why not recycle it?

Plus, opening a box is exciting. I don't have the patience to carefully remove tape and preserve bubble wrap.

I love using the saran wrap approach. Everything packs neater and seems to stay together well. Not to mention...if you have a broken bottle (which you shouldn't if you pack it right) the glass will hopefully stay contained.

When I first started trading I was the guy taping entire bottles up but I found bulk rolls of plastic wrap and swear by that now. Works so much better then tape and acts like a 2nd seal against leakage.

I use various wrapping methods (including tape, rubber bands, whatever) and haven't lost a bottle yet, so I must be doing something right??

I'd like to jump on the "no tape, please" bandwagon. It is just a big mess. I use Glad Press and Seal over the entire bottle once it's bubble wrapped. It's great stuff, it clings like tape, but comes right off without shredding the bubble wrap. It also adds an additional moisture barrier.
