Haha, I mean what beer uses the same water? This is a Philosophical question...[IMG]

    My brain hurts!

I mean really, though -- I CAN tell the differences between tap, spring, mineral, and purified water, but when water from two different countries are put into a beer? Who's going to notice that!?

    Wow, really interesting.

I also imagine that "I Love You With My Stout" might be related/similar to Even More Jesus.

Even More Jesus 22 oz. bottles are brewed and bottled at Westbrook. All the 4-packs are brewed and bottled in CT. I Love You With My Stout is a blend of Even More Jesus, Ashtray Heart and Yin or another Imp Stout or 2.

Random thread revival here, but I found this thread yesterday when I was reviewing the "I Love You With My Stout". I just talked with a 12% LLC rep today. ILYWMS and Even more Jesus are the same beer. EMJ = Westbrook, boiled 5 hours. ILYWMS = Two Roads, boiled 3 hours. That explains why I like EMJ a bit more, and why the price is a huge difference. Two more hours of boiling loses significant volume, according to the rep at least for the differing systems sizes.

Very similar, but not exactly the same. I've spoken with Jeppe about it.

Is I Love You With My Stout back in production? Just saw some here in GA in 4-packs.

I have seen these in Kansas and Arkansas within the last two weeks, but I have no idea if they were current.

I think the Julian Date on the bottles I saw was 1XX15. Don't remember the exact day, but I think it was fairly recent. I may pick up a 4-pack, always looking for well regarded RIS to have ready in the fridge.

I appreciate this post. I Aun Mos, Even More Jesus, and I Love You With My Stout. Going to have a side-by-side tasting to see if I can taste ANY differences.

    Be sure to report back.

I Love You With My Stout tasted much sweeter to me, but I had them months apart. Could just be my mind playing tricks. Also Jesus tasted much better because I had to go out of state to find it so, you know... exclusivity.

If it helps at all, I recently did a side-by-side of Even More Jesus and Aun Mas a Jesus, and here's what I found:

    Aun Mas a Jesus

Appearance: Dark brown verging on black, practically opaque as no light penetrates even the edge. Thin tan head, down to a collar then thin ring.

Aroma: Aroma of licorice, slight pine, and roasted yet sweet malts, all in equal measures. Some faint briny notes in background. Bakers chocolate as it warms. Herbaceousness not unlike Jager (licorice and mint).

Taste: Taste confirms most of the aromas--predominately sweet, yet a hint of saltiness at first (licorice saltwater taffy), immediately giving way to sweet breadiness and a light roast from the malts. Aftertaste of slight bitter, piney hops, which cleanses and resets the palate.

Mouthfeel: Lightly carbed, a bit thinner than I would have expected. Not quite watery.

    Even More Jesus

Appearance: An opaque dark brown verging on black with practically no light penetration. Dense tan head that settles to a slightly thicker collar than Aun Mas.

Aroma: Initial aroma of sweet molasses and fudgy, immediately followed by a slight tinge of briny soy sauce. Inhaling more deeply sweet bready malts come forward. There also is a smoky note that accentuates the slight saltiness in the aroma.

Taste: Taste is sweet--milk chocolate and dark fruit (brandied cherries), counterbalanced by some smoky salty notes, but those are faint and only serve to complement the sweetness. Practically no hops to speak of. Alcohol is noticeable from the start.

Mouthfeel: Oily mouth feel with light carbonation.

In conclusion, the two beers couldn't have been more different, in my opinion. If you're looking for well-known touchpoints, I found Aun Mas a Jesus to be quite similar to fresh Old Rasputin, and Even More Jesus was not unlike Dark Lord. Frankly, I prefer the decadence of Even More Jesus, but Aun Mas a Jesus has its merits and may be more faithful to the RIS style.

    Cheers!

I thought it was the same as EMJ only in a twelve ounce bottle. I didn't try them side by side or anything but had a few days apart and thought they were the same. At 8.99 a bottle though, I will pass next time. However, the same store had the cafe version for only 6.99 a bottle which is still steep, but is so good I can justify paying that.

Thanks! This is really helpful. Saving my side-by-side for X-mas. Looking forward to comparing notes!

I could be wrong, but I read this:

“When I copied the famous Even More Jesus, I had to ask myself as an artist, why am I doing this? I didn’t honestly know. It was just an instinct about beer as pure form… in a sense this stout is like a metaphor for freedom - the sum of all the beauty that surrounds me and my perfect contemporary existence.”
