Acquired one as an extra. Does anyone know the last time this was distributed? Trying to figure out how old this is... I even called Dark Horse and the guy just told me he didn't know. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Dark Horse kinda lives in the shadow of Founders and Bells but I think they make damn good stuff.

I'm not sure if people have limited access to this, but I love this beer and it is plentiful here. BM if anyone wants some beer mail.

I agree with @Crash_Hop that they are shadowed. Some of the best stuff in MI! Stouts and IPAs will fight Founders and Bells stuff very well!

A true double. BIG doesn't do it justice.

Love this beer! Hard to get around here. Seems to fall off a little quickly though.

Always found it to be a touch malty.

Honestly dude- let it fall off. It's an amazing beer fresh, but with a year or 2 on it, it really enters that Barleywine stratosphere in terms of taste profile. In fact, I know many people feel like it is in the hoppy American BW territory even fresh. Although I have never gotten to try the Quad Crooked Tree before...

That's something that hadn't crossed my mind. I'm always drinking them as soon as I can find them. I'll have to put one aside the next time I buy a few.

I am doing a 5 year vertical of this soon. Last year I did a 4 year vertical and it was amazing, the 4 year old stuff then was drinking astounding and even had some minor hop presence in it still. I was shocked by that. Unfortunately now I like it more with age so having it fresh isn't my jive anymore. I'll go grab some Stone or something to get my IPA fix (or my basement, brewed a Pliny clone that's awesome).

Opened it. So good. I would agree with @TheBrewo that's it's a bit malty, but it works. Although I've never had it aged, I can see how it may become pleasantly barleywine-esque. I think it's extremely comparable to Devil Dancer- but this wins that competition for me. And I definitely agree that Dark Horse is overshadowed... such a consistent lineup. I picked up some Pt5 today as well so I suppose that's up next. Cheers! (Don't mind my rot puppy and my wife making their cameos).
