Its crazy that teams like Spain and Germany are total underdogs!

While they have an easy group, it is a hard road in the knock outs for them. Its not a FIFA event without a referee inserting himself into the headlines!

God, this is going to be an awesome tournament.

One extra person joined, so let's give the extra box to 2nd place

Man, 74 of us picked one of 4 teams to win it. We arent terribly creative (says the guy who picked Brazil to beat Argentina in the finals).

To the guy who picked Croatia, I say either kudos or enter your picks before your 11th beer of the night.

I have them in the Semis and getting bounced by the home team(s)

No Reus for Germany makes me nervous. And Costa is a wild card for Spain. Could be the darling of the WC or could have the entire club season catch up to him.

    Again, this is awesome!

for sure this is awesome; but did you see how soft Brazil was...... as always. Deutchland crush that

    great banter back-and-forth.

Terribly soft. Almost as soft as the penalty and Brazil has a tough road through the knockouts. Ozil would've sliced and diced that team today. I just feel like its going to be a long & hot South American summer ... but it could easily wind up Germany v Spain.

And we haven't even mentioned the Dutch ... they finish 2nd and face a Brazil that played like they did tonight and everyone's bracket goes cross-eyed!

With Brazil playing as they played today, Germany would've destroyed them tonight.

Haha that'd be me. I actually do like Croatia and still do even though I picked Brazil to win the group. Brazil was fired up and was gonna win the opener but Croatia was missing their best goalscorer and Modric and rakitik are nasty.

5.41 combined for those three winners. I'm not so sure about that though. Especially Spain

Modric might have been the best player on the field today...Brasil played a less than stellar match and still got a 3 to 1 result. They are going to play better as the tournament goes on and their competition gets tougher...

The thing I don't like about this pool (and I'm the organizer) is there is no score until the Group Stage ends. It's hard to compare yourself to everyone until pretty late in the tournament.

Agreed. It would be more interesting but take a lot more knowledge and skill to predict the individual results of the group fixtures as well. I think this levels the playing field for those who may be casual or less than casual followers versus some of us who follow, eat, sleep, live and die soccer/football.

I have a feeling with this many people and so many with the same teams, the tiebreaker is going to be huge. ( total # of goals by winning team throughout tourney)

Just a thought, when I did Survival football, we had so many people that ended with ties. Have you thought about what would happen if it arises here? I mean most people went with the same 4 countries to win. I can see say 4-5 people tying especially if we are awarding top 12.

    There is a tie-breaker -
    Tiebreaker
    • How many total goals will be scored by the winning team in the tournament (including the Group Stage, and including extra time goals, but not shootouts)?

If people tie on this, then not sure what we want to do ? Not sure if espn has any further tie breakers ( like total number of correct winners ? )

If there is a tie (including tiebreaker) then the total number of boxes for those places will be added up and divided evenly between those people. If there is an uneven number of boxes, there will be some sort of random drawing to see who receives the extra box.

Maybe we could figure out some kind of mini-bif within this BIF? I'll have to think about it...

Seems fine to me. The only problem that arises from that is if two people tie for 12th place, I guess the same rule could apply though -- random drawing to see who gets the box ? Chances of that seem slim though.
