Have not participated in NBS much since it became a pic and link to music videos thread, but deciding to participate this Sunday. Enjoying far too much World Cup action and cheering on the CONCAFAF teams. Although it does not look too good for Honduras. My contribution is Clown Shoes Luchador En Fuego in the spirit of our more Latin neighbors. Awesome.

    New IIPA Sunday

Having a Lickinghole “Nuclear Nugget Imperial Honey IPA.” Pours a deep dark murky amber with very little head. Smell is sweet caramel and light floral scent. First sip is sweet with caramel, buttery bread, and ending with a grapefruit and hop resin bitterness. Taste is fantastic aside from being a tad too sweet. Mouthfeel is cough syrup like and very un-lively. Very thick and resinous where the carbonation is almost non existent. I feel that if this beer more highly carbonated it would be near perfect. It just takes too much away from it and comes across more like a barley wine.

I was torn between this and Blaecorn Unidragon. I think I chose wisely for the day, but I'm looking forward to the Luchador in the near future!

(I usually avoid posting music on NBS, just to keep the separation from WBAYDN? more discrete.)

I'm not sure whether it's the positive aspect of my review, or that it was my first contribution to NBS, or even other's thoughts of the beer I posted about, but it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside that 10+ people liked my review.

I *think* you will find yourself posting here more often. NBS is a community within the BA community, if that makes sense. Or...to put it another way, we are family!

Glad to "see" you man, and BTW a short howdydo and link to a review is plenty welcome in this thread, as always. This is NBS, it was what it was longer than it is what it is. Still lots of old schoolers round these parts.

Well I thought I'd give NBS a spin. Happy Father's Day to all, I hope it is a pleasant one and that all your wishes come true...and now on to the beer.

I'll be a homer today and try a Missouri brew...Mother's Sandy Hopped Up Wheat.

Born on 4/22, 4.8 ABV, 33 IBU, an American Pale Wheat Ale.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass (Father's Day gift!) Nice thick, fluffy white head, golden hazy sun kissed liquid, nice sticky lacing throughout my tasting.

Not much on the nose...a faint hint of bread with a dash of lemon zest.

Clean and crisp on the mouth, nice carbonation dancing on my tongue and a yeasty bready, slightly bitter citrus finish. There is a hint of grapefruit but it is very mild...on the bottle it says "Ale brewed with grapefruit peel"...maybe so but if true a very little amount was used.

I'm a homer for mother's Brewing Company but honestly this is a very average beer IMHO. All the flavors are there but all are very subdued. Not enough "rotten fruit" to be a wheat that I would like and not enough citrus and pine to be "hopped up" as marketed. Very drinkable and a great starter for a newbie to try the style. I won't be buying again but I wouldn't decline the beer if offered...3 1/2...Cheers!

And to finish off my homer post I'll leave you with a little fishing tale (of a little fish) caught on my GoPro yesterday morning...

New Home State Father's Day Barleywine Sunday

Took the kids to the movies this afternoon and had a disagreement as usual. So we split up and the wife and my little princess naturally went to Maleficent while the boys and I took in X -Men. Good flick. Nice mix of X2 and First Class for those interested. Anyway, reluctantly grabbed this a couple weeks ago for NBS. I say reluctantly because I hate bomber only breweries (I say draft only or all formats), and other than BORIS, most of their beers have not impressed me. Doesn't help that they are all $8 and up too. I don't like to dog on any brewery, especially when they are localish and have good people, but I call 'em as I see 'em.

This one lives up to the title. Can't even describe how sweet. Tastes a lot like apple juice. A little apple cider like tartness, faint alcohol, some other fruit, and very light yeast. Honestly too sweet to notice much of anything. I wouldn't really say bad, a sweet or blush wine drinker may enjoy it, but not good for sure. Don't know if some age would help, but certainly can't hurt. Going to let it continue yo warm to see if I can finish it. Doubtful. Overall 3. Happy dad's day to all of you laundry washing, grocery getting, diaper changing, lawn mowing, shelf building, bike assembling, crooked pony tail making, volunteer coaching, stroller pushing, make-up wearing, Disney watching, birds and bees talking, driving instructing, wedding gown buying, college tuition paying, cigar smoking, beer and bourbon drinking guys out there!

So I'm on a mission to semi-blind taste test of the plethora of sesion IPAs that have appeared. I say "semi" because I know what the two are, but I don't know which is which. This week we have Smutty Bouncy House vs. Southern Tier Farmers Tan. Despite appearance, these two are surprisingly similar. If I was blind folded and had no idea what I was trying, I would swear these were a different batch of the same beer.

The FT is darker and has a bigger head and won by a very slight margin on taste.

Greeting NBSers! It's breached 80 and is gorgeous in Cleveland. I got yard work done and now a beer is calling.

    Of greater importance-
@cavedave Thanks for starting the thread. That really sucks to hear... but as a pharmacist I will definitively say if you only have one and keep its abv in the 'session' level you can absolutely partake as well as post while on doxy. Flagyl is the only antibiotic that's an absolute no-no with alcohol. With doxy no more than that but one with low abv is A-OK.
    :
It's been out for a couple weeks but I finally opened this wonderful collaboration. It initially appears a bit dark for summer but being lighter-bodied is actually perfect, and really makes me wish Cigar City made it to our local distribution.

Happy fathers day there nbs world. It's really starting to look like summer out here on eastern long island.

Today my new beer is Dayglow IPA from Elysian. It's not easy to find a good stock of Elysian around here and sometimes very hard to find it fresh. Anyway, this is a really nice beer all around. The pour and nose are solid with tangy fruity hops. Big time tangerine, citrus fruit, pine, and a nice bitter finish. At just 6.5% the flavor profile is impressive and the 90 ba score is a good reflection,

NEW 5 YR. OLD, UM, OLD ALE
    Greetings, fellow NBSers,
Congrats to Dads everywhere. Here in the city where today's holiday was created, it's 61 degrees, mostly cloudy and has been raining on and off throughout the day. Having had the satisfaction of losing a lot of weight over the past year, I viscously kicked nutritional common sense to the curb yesterday and had an insanely rich waffle cone at Brainfreeze, a local creamery. Called "Dirt", it was chocolate ice cream...with some oreo-like cookies in it. Oh, and there were ribbons of chocolate pudding in it. Fortunately the place was next to the Centennial Trail, so I was able to walk along the Spokane River long enough to work off enough of that bad boy to be able to fit back into my car and rive home.

Today the hedonism continued with Ola Dubh Reserve #16:
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/323/41012/?ba=woemad

I'd been sitting on this for several years, and didn't really know what to expect. Now I wish I kept it bottled until after dinner, when it could have been the dessert for the Gouda-stuffed meatloaf I'm making for dinner. Whiskyish without being too hot, with a nice melding of booze, dark fruit, mollasses and tobacco, this was very tasty stuff!

    Hey what's going on?

Been busy, I have family in town, and World Cup is on... so I haven't exactly been surfing.

But still manage to drink a beer! What's new for our hero?

    -----------------------------------

    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3.25 | Final Score 3.31

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

A thick chestnut brown malt color out of the bottle, and fills with a very dark mahogany brown and a bit of faint red. Barely a finger of tan head, leaving a thin collar. Looks a bit like a weak oud bruine.

Weak and subtle nose. Strange whipped milk chocolate, and brett like lemon dryness. Kind of subtle and not very distinct.

Palate is a bit lifeless particularly in the mouthfeel. Extremely wet bodied, and almost seltzery. Slightly juiced flavors and quality save it a bit, with hints of citrus orange and almost fruit punch. Minimal malt sweetness and a moderate acid. Not really much going on.

Overall it's not terrible, but really not that great either with not much for me to say.

    ---------------------------------------------

It's a little disappointing, the last 2 CS beers I've had have been enjoyable and impressive in their own right, this one came off more as a weak and poor oude bruin like imitation, and not a good one it seemed. Mor to be had that's for sure.

    Cheers!

    New American Brown Ale Sunday

    Greetings NBS,

Happy Padres Day to all the Dads out there. Hope you're all enjoying some fine beer, grub, and company.

The weather in Southern, CT has been glorious this weekend. Yesterday was a great day of outdoor fun with friends and family for our daughter's second bday. Good times had by all and I even managed to squeeze in a beer or two while holding it down with food. Today was a nice relaxing recovery day, been a while since I've done this little. I liked it.

Lots of awesome food and beer on the thread today, good to see and also good to see all the new and familiar faces.

I had forgotten about this beer from Bear Republic I've been eager to sample:

Hope everyone has a productive and quick work week.
