Just to let you know the following facts:

We have extensively tested both metal and plastic growler caps and here are the results:

    Plastic caps:

Seal much better and hold the carbonation much better when they are shipped. Yes!
When smacked together, they give and crack open spilling all the beer. No!
Are easy to replace or clean. Yes!

    Metal caps:

Loose the carb when shipped easier than that of plastic caps and are harder to seal. No!
Do not crack or give when bumped, but like the old fashion race cars, do not give like the plastic caps and such hard knocks can chip your glass. No!
Are easy to replace or clean. Yes!

    Results:

We will offer you your choice from this day forward. Are you a metal head, great we got you covered. Prefer plastic, that's your option for a superior seal.

    Again:

It is now your choice for growler lids at TGBC. Metal or Plastic.

    Cheers

I just got back from my trip and stopped in Decorah for a night to visit Toppling Goliath and Courtyard and Cellar. It's definitely worth spending the night if you're able to. Toppling Goliath has a great little facility, awesome staff, and great beer (of course). They don't have any food, but you're welcome to bring food in with you, so you might want to considering doing that if you're going to be there for a while. Courtyard and Cellar was fun, with a nice tap list, decent bottle selection, and limited food. The vibe there is great, though, and had we made it to Decorah earlier, I would have spent more time there.

I'd highly recommend considering staying at the Leytze's Corner Historical Bed and Bath if they have a room available when you visit. It's located right on the edge of the "downtown" area, between TG and C&C. Both places are well within walking distance and the Leytze's B&B is inexpensive, charming, and run by some really welcoming people. In terms of convenience, I don't think it could get better in Decorah, if you're stopping to visit TG. You could easily park the car there and leave it for the entire time you're in Decorah.

When you hit the road in the morning, swing by Java John's for some fantastic coffee and bagels, which is right across the street from the Co-op. Hope this is helpful and have fun!

Do any TG bottles have date codes on them? I'm going on memory here, but I thought the Golden Nugget bottles had date notches along the side of the label, but they weren't notched.

They have the option but I haven't seen them notched yet. I would like to see the boxes stamped with a date at some point if they are going to continue ramping up the bottling line. I wouldn't worry about old TG anything unless you bought them second hand or traded for them.
