I just got back from Russian River -- I've been heading up there, not very regularly for a decade now. Totally insane! A 2 to 2.5 hour wait for a table, 35-45min wait for growler fills/bottles to go! Bouncer at the back said "Yeah, this is the new normal. Get used to it."

Y'all need to start drinking wine!

I expected it to be longer. Most grumpy old men ramble on for a while before they get to the point. But... yeah, i think that is the new normal on the weekend

Doesn't sound too shocking on Father's Day.

Whole Foods in Oakland now regularly has people lining up for the RR delivery. Comes in between 10:30-11 and they sell half of the shipment on the spot. They let another line form for the 2nd half at 6pm. "Secret" supporter societies, bottle lotteries, multi-hour lines for releases... Glad there's so much variety and so much demand for some fantastic local brewers, but man I miss the old days!

I guess I should shut my yap and go drink a homebrew.

in a year or two that will be the new Mon/Tues/Wed. Getting a table on a weekend will rival The French Laundry.

Nah, in a year they'll all be standing on Kennedy Drive trying to get a pour of 831.

Sunday is all day happy hr + Father's day. You probably expect no lines for Pliny the Younger too?

Sorry you choose the worst day to go to a bar. Perhaps you should also avoid shopping for Christmas presents on December 24th.

The beer continues to be great but I'm over the pub unless it's a mid-day weekday. It's just not worth it. Food and service was never that good anyways.

It used to just be a nice local pub. Bonus was you'd bump into Vinnie or Natalie most of the time. Now it's just a zoo. I'm 0 for 4 on my recent visits. Show up with out of town folks since it's on the bucket list. Power through the full tasting paddle as fast as possible. Decompress over at 3rd st.

I don't even bother going on the weekends anymore. Last time I was there I showed up on a Friday afternoon at about 1:15. Waited about 90 minutes for a table. Maybe Fridays are part of the weekend there now. Amazing to remember that just a couple years ago it was a rarity if you didn't get a table right away. (I think I had probably been there 20 times before I had to wait.) And unfortunately, Lagunitas has gotten overcrowded, too.

Nothing to do about it except to spend your time/money at the newer breweries that haven't been discovered by the masses yet, hoping to find the "next" RR or Lagunitas. It's not like the crowds are going to go away.

wow, sounds horrible. I'm not one to like super crowded places either. I know some places in portland get super busy but I don't think I've had to wait an hour to sit down. Then again I try to figure out the best times to go however on the weekend or holiday sometimes you have to deal cuz that's the way it is.

We see these posts so often here, I just feel really sorry for anyone who places that much priority on a $ 4 dollar bottle of beer.

put in your reservation for a table and then walk to Flavor Bistro and drink Moonlight for a couple hours until your table is ready. they'll text you so you don't have to worry about going out of range from a buzzer.

Shit I did this on a Sunday because the wait was going to be an hour. Drank a pint and ate an appetizer then paid the check once I got the notification that my table was ready.

Another secret: there's a Chase Bank with a back lot on 5th street to the East of Russian River and you can park there for free. there is a row of spots that don't say customers only or any signs threatening getting towed so you don't have to worry about coming back and your car being gone.

That's why lunch at Alpine, on a weekday, CANNOT be beat. No wait, and all the IPAs (which are better than RR) you can drink.
