I just recently tried my first Gose, Anderson Valley Highway 128. I enjoyed it very much and was interested in learning more about the style. Is this a good representation? What are some other options that are available in western PA (Pittsburgh)? And lastly, is this what people mean when they are talking about Sours?

The "nerd alert," portion of the article is pretty interesting. The Anderson Valley Gose is an "OKAY" version of the style. There are, however, a lot more varieties to try out there. Good luck on your sour quest!

    Westbrook Gose.

An old German beer style from Leipzig, Gose is an unfiltered wheat beer made with 50-60% malted wheat, which creates a cloudy yellow color and provides a refreshing crispness and twang. A Gose will have a low hop bitterness and a complementary dryness and spice from the use of ground coriander seeds and a sharpness from the addition of salt. Like Berliner Weisse beers, a Gose will sometimes be laced with various flavored and colored syrups. This is to balance out the addition of lactic acid that is added to the boil.

    I'll second the Westbrook Gose.

Awesome beer that totally floored me the first time I tried it. Also, it's ideal for a day at the beach.

WestBrook doesn't distribute to Western PA. Check out Voodoo Brewing in Meadville and like them on facebook they provide whats on tap updates on there. They have a Gose waiting to go on when some of their other beers kick.

It's Westbrook, not WestBrook btw. One word last name.

Thanks for correcting my cell phone typing. No one would have ever been able to figure out what I meant without it.

Westbrook's great but I don't think they go to PA.

For another great American gose that doesn't go to PA, check out Lost Nation's (VT).

I like Westbrook a great deal, and am glad to have them here locally, but their Gose is anything but traditional/authentic.

I need to try the Anderson Valley Gose since it just arrived in WI today. I really enjoy Westbrook and I have a bottle of Gose Gone Wild to try.

Westbrook's Gose is frankly a Berliner Weisse with salt. Very good, but I don't consider it a traditional example of the style. I'm personally thrilled that a few Texas breweries are throwing their hat into the Gose ring. Real Ale brewed a delicious one with loads of lime that will be canned soon, and now Martin House is brewing a plain one for draft for release in a month or so. I'm excited!

Not a traditional/authentic Berliner Weisse either...but I get your point.

AZ Wilderness in Gilbert AZ does what I consider an excellent Gose. It is called Gibraltar's Gose and is a Leipzig style with the addition of AZ Sundried salt from a local salt mine. Unfortunately they do not distribute it but a growler of it is sitting in my fridge as we speak...although not for long!

Lost Nation's Gose is tasty. I can not comment on the authenticity to the style though.

Was hoping someone would mention Lost Nation. I've had both, LN and Westbrook, and I prefer LN. It was on draft around me for a stretch and it was so damn tasty and crushable.

Holy crap, gose has become quite the fashion. Seems anything tradeable I get these days goes for Westbrook. I'm wondering when A gose makes the top 250. Westbrook has to be making a killing these days.
