Not sure if you're a fan of the style, but man, their Wee Heavy.. :grinning: Speedway might be my favorite imperial stout, too. Cheers

Believe me, that 4 pack has been killing me down there, maybe more than any other beer. I know how delicious it is fresh, but I've never had it aged, and it's a non-traditional style for aging, at that. I think the only way to ease my mind is knowing that I can always find a fresh four-pack on the shelves if I need a fix.

    Bottle poured into a goblet.

A: Clear, ruby-red; very pleasing to my eye. Decent head that dissipates pretty quickly.

S: Fruity, with a hint of caramel and a trace of sour. "Farmhouse Ale" was the first thing that came to mind.

T: Very easy to drink; plenty of raisins, dark cherries and a little bit of apple. Good balance of sweet and sour; really no hop bitterness to speak of. For some reason, it tasted like it had a higher ABV than it does.

M: Fairly thin, but not unpleasant. Not a lot of carbonation.

O: I'm fairly new to the style, but I liked this dubbel; it goes down very easily, and while it lacks a powerful character, it does make for a very pleasant experience. I'll definitely be buying more of this one.

    Serving type: bottle

    Cheers, everyone, and Go U.S.A.

That was literally my first Belgian ale, about 16 years ago (also in Florida, coincidentally). I hardly remember anything about it, except that at the time - being a German lager drinker then - I found it thick, boozy, dark, and flavorful.

I've got one in the cellar for old time's sake. Hopefully I enjoy it as you did.

The thought occurs to me that you don't ( I don't ) see a whole lot of porters. Or if I do I usually don't pay special attention to them. And I get it, porters don't get a lot of love. If your going to brew a porter, might as well brew a stout they get more love. This porter however deserves a lot of love.

Robust, pretty much hits it right on the nose ( no pun intended). Drinks like a brown IMO, some carbonation and a fair to middlin' mouthfeel. The aroma is quite pleasant a bit of smoke a bit of coffee and a bit of bread, nothing too forceful, all blending nicely. But the flavor, the flavor kicks you right in the teeth. Upfront with burnt toast followed by coffee, Pete's as opposed to Starbucks. Something you drink because it tastes good rather than because everyone thinks you ought.

My first brew by Smuttynose, and if everything they produce is as good as this then I shall be disappointed. Only because, barring misfortune, I will be moving to where they are not available. Is it bad that while we are moving closer to both my wife and I's family, what beer I can pick up is always at the back of my mind?

What's up NBS, I'm having another new beer from Great South Bay, Wild and Crazy Rye IPA.

A bit of cheap bum off the snl sketch but I guess it's creative too? Anyway, the beer is pretty spot on. Interesting nose with citrus, rye, and hops. I get almost an orangey spiced floral tone. I got a big bitter burst of hops and rye on the first sip. The bitterness lingers nicely. Lots of fruity, tangy, and spiced notes with a solid full bodied mouth feel. Lots of rye and malt on the finish. Overall a solid and enjoyable brew that I would probably put it in the low 4's. Bottle 182/250,

    New DIPA Sunday

    Good Evening NBS,

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the World Cup festivities. I can't get enough!

Southern CT has again enjoyed a gorgeous weekend as Mother Nature refunds us for the brutal winter.

Lots of QT with the fam, exercise, and chores for me. Oh yeah, and soccer as I now pull for the US to overcome this deficit.

I look forward to reading the fine NBS posts, looks like some good stuff out there.

I searched for something in the cellar with a lower abv but settled on this fine brew from Clown Shoes:

    Greetings Jane, et al.
Today it is Boatswain Twin Screw Steamer. A sickly sweet DIPA. Not sure I would have this again, although my review is significantly better than the average.

A seasonal first weekend of summer in the Columbia Basin. An outdoor wedding yesterday to marry off the daughter of some old friends. Today I am working to get a couple of decks in shape for the summer season. Re-seating some nails and applying a fresh coat of stain. Looking forward to some great summer days and nights here on the ranch.

I see by the DBF than I am now out of new beers. Plenty of old standby's but nothing new in the door, so some sort of search must be undertaken this week.

    Until then,

    Happy Trails!

    A thing of beauty.

This is a pretty tough beer. Great look and aroma. Tons of flavor: chocolate, roasted barley, coffee, even smoke. Yet, there's a harshness - very reminiscent of KBS - that hits the back of the throat, and takes away from my enjoyment a little bit.

All that said, I think it's an outstanding beer, and I see why the variations are so beloved. Hell, I see why this one is so beloved; it's just not a big bomber that I'm going to dish out mad cash for again in the near future.

Hey, NBSers! I'm having my first beer from Grassroots Brewing to cheer on the USA. A big ole bottle of the Convivial Suarez.

A: Pours with a full head with small to medium-sized bubbles. The beer has a slighty hazy, amber/dark orange hue.

S: Bretty funk, lemon and berries.

T: Lemon and raspberry again. A balance between acidic and juicy flavors.

O: Really great. Refreshing for a hot afternoon. Hope they make this again.

Haven't contributed to NBS in awhile, and an interest in figuring out better photo uploads helped my motivation. The day started out insanely muggy and warm, but brewed a Dark Mild anyway. Early afternoon showers cooled things down a bit. I've nearly run out of home-brew! Time to pick up something new, and went for a saison. Hints of skunk in the nose (damn green bottles!) kept this from a world-class review.

    Greeting All,
After the last few nights of beering with friends I was not sure if I had enough gas in the tank for an NBS, but sometimes you have to take one for the team. LOL. They tapped a firkin of Beer Hates Astronauts at Half Acre on friday and was that place hopping. Good people and Good beer. Weather here has been a mixed bag of rain, humidity and occasional sunshine, and yesterday coming back from the dog park we drove through what had to be a mini Monson. June is the new April in the Great lakes area.

Picked this up on a reccomendation from my friend Kendal at Binny's and now its time for New Hoppy Wheat Sunday.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with short head that slowly fades. Aromas of lemon, grass, bread and a some fruitty esthers. Taste is a mix of spice, grass, orange peel, biscuity/bready notes, hints of grain. The finish is mildly spicy, dry,
and slightly bitter. Overall a decent hoppy wheat but I think I was hopping for a little more from the mosaic hops in this one. But to be fair I will have it again on a hot sunny day.

Cheers and a good week to all, Joe
