The Alchemist HAD other beers. However after the Hurricane destroyed they're brew pub they invested everything in canning Heady Topper. Only recently have they made another brew, which I've heard is quite good but haven't had yet.

Don't use colored glasses, coffee mugs or any other such nonsense in a blind tasting. Appearance is a very important aspect of a beer... don't block out one of your senses. Would you hold your nose closed during a DIPA tasting? Just use some decent glassware and be honest.

No that's the point: if you can see the colors then it influences your perception of the taste and further you can actually tell which beer is which, which totally defeats the purpose of the blindness.

So you always use colored glasses it makes it...blinder ; )

I wouldn't be surprised at people being fooled by 'Accessible craft', but if you can't tell an adjunct lager apart from a barley malt beer, you must be a *huge* poser.

Um, what? They've recently been canning many beers besides Heady. Beelzebub, Focal Banger, Petit Mutant, Crusher are a few that jump to mind. Yes predominantly it is Heady but they've been pumping out others as well.

It's OK.What I've discovered is that people will drink what you give them. It really is amazing. Really good beer is often lost in conversation when the friends are close. Friends and family matter way more than proving how good something is.

Sorry, moved out of VT last year before this started, had only heard about Focal Banger. They were only brewing HT for awhile there.

Gotcha, they've got a bunch of high quality offerings that should be a little more available once they get their second place up and running. Or so I've heard.

Well, agree to disagree I suppose. I stand by my outlook though. What's the point in finding out which beer tastes better? I want to know which one is better and that encompasses much more than taste. Anything else is just too narrow a view and sells all the beers short. If you can't objectively judge the charteristics in each sample then so be it I suppose

This is a good one. We get it really fresh out here (obviously) and it can be damn good. It might be the best vienna lager I've ever had. And it's at every restaurant and bar in a 100 mile radius.

This sounds like a great little prank; well done! I'd like to think I would be able to find the humor in it even if I was one of the prankees, but I hope I never have to find out.

Too funny. I literally drank Anchor Cali lager the other night and thought it tasted like Bud.

I'd love to say "What poseurs! I'd never fall for a trick like that." But, given that you told them that it was something new from Anchor, I'd probably fall in like they did, although, perhaps not so deeply. Being Skandahoovian, I grew up knowing how to say "Well, that's...interesting," like I did the first time my FIL offered me a Mich Golden Light. Of course, he reciprocated in kind when I gave him a brown ale of some sort (I don't remember which one as it was more than 15 years ago.)

As another poster pointed out, telling someone upfront that the beer was something new from Anchor created expectations and from there the mind takes over. Try doing it in a double blind with something as innocuous as FS Session Lager or Schell's Pils and they'd probably pick it out as the stinker.

I've had friends pull this on me with Bud/Tecate/PBR/Corona/Miller many times. I called it disgusting fizzy water, most likely a shitty macro AAL Bud/Tecate/PBR/Corona or Miller. You're either making this up or your friends are not beer snobs.

That was hysterical. Too bad the A man isn't around anymore.

OP, blind tasting is the great equalizer. I know it shut my big mouth when I thought Hop Sun by Southern Tier was some sort of hoppy lager when I tasted it blind.

Some find this hard to believe? It really isn't even about the beer and it's taste but rather more about human beings and how their brain works in a "controlled" situation...the mind is a terrible thing to waste
