Wish it didn't come to this, but here's the whole long story...

On May 21 @ACB posts an ISO: Sahale -- http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/iso-sahalie.180776/

I responded offering Sahale for Filmishmish. Little back and forth lag, but I shipped 5/28 he shipped shortly after. Turns out I screwed up and sent a bottle of Sahati not the Sahale agreed upon. I immediately offered a return shipping label and the proper bottle sent out same day. @ACB asked if he could keep the Sahati and expand the trade. We agreed to change the trade to Sahale + Sahati for Filmishmish + Mischmishmish.

@ACB had to get Mischmishmish from the bruery, he said he'd ship the bottle 6/2. I shipped the Sahale on 6/5 and it was delivered 6/9.

On 6/9 I asked for an update, on 6/10 he said the Sahale had come but he'd just missed the fedex pickup. On 6/16 I asked for another update, no BM responses since then.

On 6/18 I texted. He said he had asked his assistant to ship the bottle and he would check up on it. No followup for ~5 days. So here we are. 21 days since scheduled shipping.

Hmmm...not good, but does sound like @ACB has not disappeared and is maintaining communication. I fear you may be jumping the gun here, but certainly, I understand the frustration. IMO, if you're in communication with him, you need to give him a heads up about posting a bad trader thread and see if he comes through on his end.

Hopefully this works out and you get your beers.

Is it jumping the gun? I've seen people get called out in public the moment there was the perception someone was "backing out of the deal". If it's a miscommunication then it will sort itself out in short order. There's no reason to go silent in situations like this if trader is clearly active.

Maybe @mythaeus can show up and tell us about his trading experience with @ACB , mythaeus is a stand up guy so maybe he has some insight.

Suppose it goes to the "how do you define bad trader" debate. I don't necessarily have a problem with OP calling him out, but I don't think I would have yet (based solely on the information provided in the original post). My guess is it will work out for OP, but I doubt the two of them will trade with each other again. OP b/c of delay, and @ACB because of the callout.

That's funny. When I saw @mythaeus in @ACB's trade history (twice actually), I guessed that this was at worst a screw up if mythaeus is trading with him.

Funny how reputations precede folks on this site, and I think this is why I fear OP jumped the gun a bit b/c once this type of thread is posted, folks start adding names to the list pretty quick.

If someone can come on BA yesterday at 7 they have should have no issue replying to the OP saying why the bottle didn't ship yet. Maybe it's just me but I over update my trade partners with BM from the "shipping label is done here is tracking number" to "dropped it off now", takes a total of 1 min to send from your phone or pc.

If my expectations are off / outside community norms I'll happily, publicly apologize to @ACB. But from where I sit, after multiple direct requests for status over 3 weeks with no real response... Is this acceptable or normal?

Not saying he should have let his assistant do the shipping , but maybe he /she wasn't to bright about it like telling ups or fed ex its beer. He should be handling it himself. And he should be giving you a tracking number, maybe just maybe he thought his assistant took care of it all..... Better to let him explain, im sure he will be on here to make it right or to explain.

Same question I ask in every one of these threads: do you have a formally accepted trade (via the site's system) between you two?

Absolutely not acceptable. Not one whit.

Three weeks late & hasn't bothered to respond to a text for five days? He deserves to be called out.

I hope this is just the classic case of a lazy-ass trader who needs public shaming in order to get his box together, but if you can't get your act together in three weeks, (a) stay in constant touch & (b) get out of beer trading permanently.

The proliferation of these threads of late is insane. I feel bad when I have to delay shipping by one day, and even then I drop a quick note to tell the guy that.

Holy shit guys! I'm so sorry. I'll be hitting you up separately, Aaron.

Douchiest thing in the world, but I handed that off to my asst. and have been traveling for three weeks (kinda trusted it'd been taken care of). Hadn't really been checking BA, but when you sent the message last week I checked with her was told it went out. I asked for the shipping info to send to you and didn't hear anything back. I had to travel to AZ late last week... Anyway, checked with her again today. After some questioning I got the, "Oh, shoot, no that hasn't gone out." I apologize, and again, I'll hit you up separately. Needless to say I will personally ensure that is going out today before I head out again on Wednesday.

This was going to be my final trade for quite some time because, again to be douchey, I'm quite busy and knew that with all my traveling I wouldn't able to really stay on top of this shit.

Sorry, truly, I can say 100% I feel like shit, but dude, come on, I texted you last week and explained everything... Over 1 bottle you would do this? Sorry for throwing the mud back at you, but come on man, cut me some slack here. I was pretty cool, as a I remember, when you'd shipped the wrong bottle initially. I even paid extra to get that McMishMish up here in a timely fashion. Sorry I haven't stayed more on it, exactly why I'd stopped trading before this month!

In communication with @ACB again -- this seems to be moving towards closure.

Can we as a community make the choice that "got busy" can't be used anymore? We are connected to the internet 24/7 nowadays and unless you fall into a coma it holds no water. I can check BA under the table at meetings, pretty sure that holds true for everyone else reading this.

I would think sloppy comm is still bad trading, I net is everywhere. If your a day late just BM it. I don't ask my wife to do my trades I do it myself, start to finish, if you can't don't.

It's always bad communication that is the problem lately. Amazingly, that situation seems to resolve itself as soon as a thread is put in this forum. Astounding, isn't it, how a thread in this forum can cause changes in folks' ability to send an internet message?

I don't think you did anything maliciously, or intentionally -- I don't think you were out to rip anyone off, but what you describe here is a textbook example of things about to go south:
