I just discovered the braggot style thanks to Sam Adams and I was wondering if you think they will ever become more popular or more common in the craft beer scene

God I hope so. I loved CCB Ghost Stories.

I hope so. Sprecher released the bronze edition of their braggot this year which was aged 18 month(I think). It sounds like they will be releasing two more batches in the next two years, silver and gold, to allow for more aging. It is definitely a style that was foreign to me and I'm looking forward to trying some more aged versions.

I really enjoy them. Like with most styles, it'll probably just take a high profile one to get everyone's attention.

Personally I don't see it happening, but I didn't see the gose upswing coming either. But even if they did it would have to be one that was really toned down in sweetness to get me to buy it.

I'm surprised by everyone's surprise about Gose becoming popular on the heels of the Beliner Weisse rise, and preceeding that, sours in general.

If meaderies get on board with brewing it is possible. They would be the most likely to make them, b nektar just recently got their brewing license. I hope they start bottling theirs eventually.

A Meadery has a wine license, and can not have malt on premise according to Ken Schramm, but what does he know, :stuck_out_tongue:. B Nektar did their first Braggots with Cigar City. With a brewery license and a brew house they can now make their own.

One of the drawbacks for braggots is that they are very expensive to make due to the high % of honey. Quality honey is not a cheap fermentable.

They're big, they're bold, and they pack a punch. That all adds up to sellability in today's beer market. I can see more breweries eventually brewing braggots.

Sun King did one for a local event in 2013 in Indianapolis that I thought was pretty disgusting...at least out of 16oz picnic cups.

Kuhnhenn, for one, makes braggots that are wildly similar to your sweeter, heavier barleywines, and considering how popular those are these days, I don't see why braggots shouldn't catch on more.

The funny thing is, the market is still very limited for Berliners and Goses as far as being sold in bottles/cans. Most those styles I have to get at the brewery, hell I can't even get them consistently at a brewery. Definitely haven't reached the level of popularity that IPAs hold.

This is one of two beer styles I haven't had yet, mainly because I can't find anything locally and I was refraining from trading for braggots. A couple of local breweries brewed braggots a while back, but I haven't seen any from them since. All of the better bottle shops I've asked specifically for braggots either don't carry them and didn't express any interest or didn't even know what they were.

I really liked Twisted Pine's Westbound Braggot and would like to try more of the style if I ever see it.

Well IPAs are a completely different story. Not sure they're even worth mentioning here - but I would agree that Gose and BWs are less popular than some articles would suggest, but they have been lifted from obscurity into the conciousness of most enthusiastic beer drinkers.

After I posted my comment, I did a quick search and found a bottle at Cost Plus of all places and that they're putting on hold for me. It looks like I'll try a braggot soon after all. Can't wait.

Only if they stop their incessant bragging. Oh, you didn't say Braggart:wink: Actually, I've always really like Brother Adam's from Atlantic Brewing.
